0.999K resolutions (warning:RANT)

ok, where do I start.

I've had this idea for a few months now and I ain't letting writer's block stop me now!
being the new year and being at the threshhold of 1000 posts (not that it really means anything but it's symbolic ya know?) so I decided that I wanted to have a few resolutions for, oh I don't know maybe the next thousand or so.

gee, it's already been a thousand posts and it hasn't even been a year yet, I joined in late march didn't I? yeah, I did. since then I think I've changed a bit. I still remember my first post, it would have probably been a poll if I knew anything about making polls back then. oh, by the way, it's to my first post that my signiture refers to. (and I intend to keep it there for as long as the sig is still true)

first off I have a confession though, when I was just starting on the forums I was of the persuasion that society was a relatively evil thing. virtually every time I was exposed to a large/medium large group of people it always seemed to turn out bad to me and it made me quite reclusive. my mom told me I needed to get out more and I hated the idea. what was worse was that I knew what she said was true but I didn't know how.

you could probably guess what I'm going to say next. I joined the forums. while I can't say it's been nothing but caviar and ice cream (I wish) it has been very much a very positive experiance which constantly contends with my lack of faith in mankind. (I believe in God just finE, it's man I have a hard time believing in :P ). I still have a problem with political debates but if that's the worst that happens around here it's as good as gold IMO.

on a different topic in July I had an idea that I never really told anyone about but I kept it for a while. the origional idea was sort of a spin off of Astral's RP. it started with a question "what if we could vote for a few forumites to get sent to the questor universe to go on some adventure the rest of us decide to set up for them" while I never totally abandoned this idea it never left the inside of my head (I might have mentioned it to my mom (my brothers wouldn't have cared anyway) but that's about it)

as with most ideas that you like but haven't done anything with (especially when your imagination demands something to think about constantly) this one grew and changed as it simmered on the back burners. now it formed into a fanfiction basically it follows a similar theme to the question described.

unfortunately, writing something in code and writing it in a word processor are two different things (mostly becase I like typing the code in manually). I have kept up with the origional theme of the story and allowed some people to help me (the criteria of who I let help me was simply "if they want to help let them". well that and I posted the info about in on DevArt so as to keep it's existance to some of a surprize) and help I needed too. having the characters as they were meant I needed backgrounds on all of them deep enough so that no one character dominates all of the spotlight or history or flashbacks or action or such (despite one of the characters being mine). I am very gratefull for the help I've gotten thus far and hope to recieve further help as the story progresses.

this that I present is one of the shortest chapters I have planned as it covers simultaneously the same event for four different people who I go through rather quickly but I think it does ok for an introduction chapter.
if you can't tell I wish there was a "nervous as can be" or a "scared stupid" emoticon available because that's how I feel about this, especially this first chapter which was worse before I went back to it. (so much worse I at first didn't even think I'd end up including it at all)

ok, so what's next, oh wait, the link!

the first chapter is located
<a href="http://www.geocities.com/shyal_malkes/b ... ">HERE!</a>

and now on to the resolutions part of this post.

please keep in mind that as I write and list these things that there are some directed to specific people who are the ONLY people allowed to vote for that particular option (so far I haven't thought of one yet that isn't just there to be funny anyway so don't take these too seriously)

also some of these may seem like I think there's something wrong with me but keep in mind it's a resolution poll, it's purpose is to find what's wrong and fix it...

You can start with trying a different color combination if you expect people to read it.

Sheesh....

"other"

Dislexia is a pain when you want to read something longer then 200 words at a time but cannot. I still have not read your fanfic even though I have you on my DA watch list for months. I would get my computer to read it to me but it has problems with special punctuation and words it does not recognise. **edit** this was NOT the punctuation-heavy fanfic I tryed and gave up on getting the computer to read... I will try to listen to it sometime.

I am not sure what this poll is for though: your resolutions for your next 100 posts I would like you to include in such a list of resolutions? If so, I would like you to not give up even if no one reads it because writing, like art, is a skill that is improved with practice (although some "writers" seem to take more practice then most to improve)

Hello my name is Dapple, and I have a problem. It has been six years, and I have to read every Fanfic I come across. Thank you.

Other: Why post a multiple-choice poll with no point or meaning?

by Shyal_malkes
honestly I was expecting a bigger turnout than this.

I guess I thought that those that voted (even for something silly) would post as well.

why the poll?

I dunno, I felt like having one and I thought of more humerous and pointless things to say then anything meaningfull, kinda like my posts.

fine, if you're gonna be all picky about it.

here, take your pick, I got...

<a href="http://www.geocities.com/shyal_malkes/b ... wjite.html">
...WHITE</a>
<a href="http://www.geocities.com/shyal_malkes/b ... 1_red.html">
RED</a>
<a href="http://www.geocities.com/shyal_malkes/b ... green.html">
GREEN</a>
<a href="http://www.geocities.com/shyal_malkes/b ... black.html">
AND BLACK...</a>

...for you to choose from, ya happy now?! :P

ya'd think that someone who wanted to be here would have thought of something better to do with his first post then be rude and tick someone else off with it.

again :P

Yeah, it's a crying shame your post riled me up enough to have to create an account just to bitch about it.

Something funny happened with your HTML in the fanfic there...
I think you misplaced a "/span" tag, whatever it does, because you've got two superimposed words in there. Formatting does some strange things, doesn't it?

Nicely written, anyhow.

Now, now... he was a bit snarky about it, but that -was- a bad color combo to read. Consider it constructive criticism from a teenage mentality. :-)

Other: Your not a mormon, but I'll talk to you anyway...

Honestly... :)

( Yes, I am one. I fail to see why that would be a reason not to talk to me. )

( No we don't have horns, you can't believe everything you hear )

Regarding fanfic...

I would eliminate this line..
And didn't return that night. In fact she never made it to the bus.

The forshadowing hints at it, and it looses continuity with the other intros.

Wait! There's no, "It's been great pestering you" option on that poll! Nor is there a "Decide whether you stand with or against the GTGa/oUDG so I know which side you're on." Hmm... I suppose both of those could go under "other." But it was more fun to not vote and just "complain." :D

I did read the beginning of the fanfic, btw. I don't have time to comment extensively now, but 'twas interesting.

my only beef was with the 'tude' but I figured he had a valid complaint so I should make optional color schemes (though 'black' was more of me being sarcastic about it (I still kept the black background)) I'm thinking of doing a white with a blue tinge on black background.

capnregex, how long have you lived in Utah? I've only been there twice, once on vacation and once to the MTC.

loses continuity? I'm not too sure what you're saying is wrong with it, I admit the line sounds off but I can't put my finger on it.
capnregex wrote:Other: Your not a mormon, but I'll talk to you anyway...
but I am a mormon, well, at least that's the nickname anyway.

Wayfarer, I'll have to keep in mind those options for 2K resolutions

btw, what does 'GTGa/oUDG ' stand for again? I remember you explaining it once but I can't remember where or what it stands for.

*All of the above.....waitaminit!!

Not really...it's just my turn to be the crumudgeon for the evening. :x :P

I don't remember what 'GTa/oUDG' is the acronym for, but it's a reference to Solidus, Me, and StrangeWulf and our predisposition to play with high explosives, high voltage, flammables, and things that go "BOOM" in general. :D

Wait, when the hell did I get drafted? :o

Oh, right, I signed that contract with Solidus. :-? I still need to go over the fine print of that thing, especially the part about "severence pacakages" near the end....

...in size 2 font.

*sigh* Gonna take me a while.

Grew up here in Utah, not down near SLC though, except for mission in SanDiego.

Words have a flow to them. the sentance is out of place, because it breaks the flow. You don't mention the others not returning, rather you leave it up to the readers imagination. By this time the reader can guess and should not need to have it pointed out, and even if they do, you make it clear with the next character.

I thought you might be, but to leave out an opposite seemed odd in a poll.

Do you want the Red pill or the Blue pill..
I'll pass thanks, I'm not real big on substance abuse.

Ok, now that's a funny thought..
In the credits after the Matrix, you need to have Neo waking up in a hospital and saying, "Dude! what a trip!"

Yeah. Black text on white background for fanfic... you work on that while I scoop what's left of my eyeballs into a frying pan and attempt to resolidify them.

I don't know you that well (I tend to just lurkstalk members that stick to one or two comics' forums rather than venture out into the whole shebang, that or I just haven't seen you), so I'll suggest this: whatever you do, don't give up. Nothing sadder than seeing half-done dreams lying discarded.

And I really like your poll.
