I don't care at this point, I'm having trouble stopping the laughter myself, looking at Quentyn trying to stop his FOLKS from laughing...

I love that sunset gradient in the second to last panel
being a student at cscc and working with photoshop almost every time I post on DA I'm starting to like looking at Ralph's drawing and figuring out what he did to do it.
darn it though but the thing that always gets to me as HARD to do or to duplicate is those darn masks. no visible circles, maybe it was a color and delete duo. grrrr.
now I just need to know how to do facial expresions.

PS yesterday there was some discussion about missing buttons. I happen to think strategically-placed buttons are an excellent idea. For instance:
Only trouble is, I can't figure out where to put them to make them work for me.

there definately has been a lot of yelling going on within the past story arc.

And Quentyn's father said exactly what I said--Go and talk to Rillcreek.
And I bet Quentyn will.
But you know....Gilder is a merchant. He has a lot at stake when it comes to the political struggle between the Expansionists vs. the Open Traders, and he could be on either side.
If he's deep in the Expansionists, he would have gotten a head's up before Quentyn got home, and would want to make sure that Quentyn thinks twice before messing around in politics again.

Seems like influence from Charles Schulz.

I still say it looks more realistic on a raccoonoid than on a Peanut.

Don't forget the "Taxes are paid" piece as well.
Same look.
I think there might be a connection with the elder (can't rememeber his name) and the counterfeiting operation. Or at the least his wife has a connection as well.

I know its a long shot, but I wonder if there is some Macbeth thing going on here. Maybe Gilder's wife is pushing her views through Gilder....(shrug) Just a thought.
And I like the word hobtwaddle.

Mr. Ralph, I like the good job you do on the word bubbles and the background shading lately.

Actually, I'd think it would be in Guilder's intrest to support the open-traders, after all, he is a merchant.
And at least I'm not the only one that went 'WHu??!?!?! Lady Rose and Gilder together?!?!?"
hopefully we're wrong.....

That depends on whether he thinks that he could benefit from such trade, either by:
1.) Being a middle-man for goods on either the import or export side of the equation.
2.) Getting his raw materials cheaper due to increased compentition.
3.) Benefit from general economic growth (assuming he thinks that would be a result).
OTOH he could side with the expansionists thinking that increased competition would decrease his own profit margins.
This is all within the scope of the implications of the fact that he is a merchant, other matters might influence his oppinions even more.
We might be surprised by the merchant and others

RH seems to enjoy giving us examples of peoples that actually learn from mistakes. The initial insult has had time to heal, and while old folks may carry grudges, they're also used to making mistakes and learning from them too.
Keep in mind, as a merchant he would have access to the rumor mill of the merchants that were helped in Sanctuary city. There is a fair chance he might know some of the real king rat story or the battle between the expansionists and free traders.
Being censured isn't all bad. It lets the powers that be ignore him as a being without sufficent reputation to endanger them I would not be surprised if the elders wanted to protect a local boy from the consequences of stepping on very large and sensitive toes, and an official censure might be a step in that direction. If nobody is paying attention to Quentyn, enemies will tend to overlook him in favor of more prominent problems elsewhere.

I... hadn't considered THAT aspect. That could be true, but... what enemies? We were JUST introduced to what may be the beginings of 'The Main Story Arc', which even if it happens as is, we'll not see it for a long time.
The news rags misrepresented the story, but aside from that they're making money off of him. Guilder just thinks he's a damned nuisance, but wouldn't do anything EVIL. There's the Shadowy Figure behind the forged coins, but I'm thinking that he believes that MULHARNEY is the one to blame for it, that 'the Questor kid' just happened to notice the nail that Mulharney hammered in.
Then there is The Previous Evil One, whose remains are... remaining across the lands; even in Sanctuary City.
And, of course, Quent's bard friend (Name escapes me) who is spending far too much time in those candles, trying to see that which isn't there. I thought THAT would have been the next storyarc, not the Tale of the Lost Sword.
All in all, I don't see many enemies. Yet.
