In the 70's as even now, in Hawaii, the thumb and pinky fingers extended with the middle three curled in to the palm was a greeting/salutation/departure and or "Dig it" or just about any other meaning depending on the situation. The vocal invocation (when given, not mandatory) was "Shakka Brudda" or "Shakka" It was given with a quick short twisting motion so that the tips of the fingers discribed a short 1-1/2" arc in both directions.
