She must have been impressed by his performance at her aunt's house.

Impressed? Probably. I also think Quentyn is making the right choice. If the cops and whoever know what the Shadow Racs were up to, or at least had an idea...they can handle better than him. Get him home is the best thing. Even though getting home is the best thing, I do not think this is the last we have heard from them.

Now taking bets on how likely it is Quentyn will say something stupid again... 8) Anyone feel like making a wager?

Trust a politician. No matter if you know the person personally, you never trust a politician.

He'll face the comspiracies again when he's ready(not that he'll enjoy it, likely, but there's no way this is a mere red herring).
And I'll wager one soul Quentyn hops away with hit foot in his mouth(metaphoricly speaking, of course).

Hey and Quentyn gets the girl in the end.
Well, Probably not but he will have good company on the way home.

I have only trusted the local politicians I knew well enough to actually work on their campaign (notice I said work on their campaign not give them any money).

Yup. Mississippi is facing money problems brought on by politicians. They don't think that MS deserves the money that Bush set aside for Hurricane Recovery.

No, at this point, Quentyn wants to bury himself in an unmarked grave and die.

1. God loves Quentyn
2. You always hurt the one you love.

Meribeth obviously recognized Quentyn in his last
performance at her Aunt Rubey. I bet that she was rather nosy about what going on. She was probably looking for someone which was out of the ordinary and Squidge was probably asking out loud if someone was from Freeman down.
Poor Quentyn, I wonder if politicians are a best choice compare to have to face Meribeth.
Elle est en position de force.
S.P.P.

Meribeth is at least forgiving. You don't get that with pollotitions unless they are in the same party or bribed.

Poor Questor, Can't get a break. Oh well, at least she's not going to maim him, turn his entire fluffy body red from embarasement maybe, but not actually maim, unless he bolts because he's feeling like and idiot and runs into something, which would be fun to watch
Now, will he going back home to the questor-stand or will Meribeth have a job for him?
One last thought, mebbe all these awkward weeting between Quentyn and Meribeth will start some sort of relationship between the two, every hero needs some sort of romantic interest.
Edit: Is that tape on his shirt?

Ohhhh.....I'm hopin' she'll compliment him on his "performance"......see
just how much redder Quentyn can turn.

What ever she says, I'm pretty sure it's gonna include
something about it.
And look at him.....he
knows it!!
And yes I
do like the expression on her face.

I suspect that, for all the amiable femmes in his life, Quentyn's romantic prospects look pretty dim lately. The one girl with a solid crush on him is only a little kid, Kestrel is just a sisterly friend and Meribeth is probably not much impressed with a seemingly younger, smaller and now very embarrassed Quentyn. Hope Questoring fills his life up nicely...
Then again, this could all change in a single page. Meribeth must have had SOME reason for bailing him out afterall. But what?

Eh, Quentyn will be all right.
...as long as Meribeth doesn't need to adjust her arms.
Clean mind... Clean mind...
