Yes, sir. I agree completely. It takes a well-balanced individual... such as yourself to rule the world. No, sir. No one knows that you were the third one... Solidus. ...What should I do about the woman? Yes sir. I'll keep her under surveillance. Yes. Thank you. Good-bye...... Mr. President.

Meribeth works in a tavern. What do you want to bet she has heard something that ties into the plot. The magistrate and the other people did say the trail of the gold led all the way back to the swamps.
Quentyn is probably going to get tangled in the plot at it's other end, and it will turn out to be right near home. Or possibly close to Nessie's home.

We also know there were people who were at Meribeth's aunt's party who were involved in the plot, so it wouldn't surprise me if she heard a few things there that didn't sit well. I'm betting she wants to hire him.labrusca wrote:Meribeth works in a tavern. What do you want to bet she has heard something that ties into the plot. keep in mind though that Quentyn isn't a "cure all" for all of the ailments in the world.
he didn't defeat a mudgullet or help nessie get the money to get to sanctuary city. there are a lot of things that Quentyn didn't do that we don't know he could have done. it is quite possable that Ralph may let this one go. or just let it stew for a while so he can take Quentyn somewhere else.

We might even see, while Quentyn is back home, Mulharney help pursue this and solve the crime.

No matter what happens, it seems as if she is the kind of person who will never let him forget his "finest" moments.
Personally, I think Quin has a subconces crush on her!

I can't help but imagine if she isn't going to hire him as an escort on her way home. Like a personal bodyguard of sort. Would help him not be so nervous around her, and maybe break his crush a bit. Nothing like good, solid reality to make your crush turn into dust in an instant.
'Course, he can always just fantasize about saving her from some villianous mugger and receiving a grateful kiss from her.
Hey, he can always dream, right?

I'm lost. I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, please ask me to wait. Thanks.

Both will be very strong memories for him. You never, ever forget the worst beating you've ever taken, and you absolutely will not forget the first time you stood naked on a stage in the spotlight, in front of an audience.......especially when you had no idea you were going to.
And top that off with seeing a girl that you know in the audience.......

Remember, she's seen him in the altogether.
And decided to bail him out.
Maybe we're seeing a classic Pepe' Le Pew.
The girl he's been chasing (well, putting his foot in his mouth over) has decided to start chasing him!

I second that. Just how old is Marybeth? She seems she at least 8+ years older than Quentyn.Narnian wrote:I believe she is too old for him - probably more like an older protective sister.
I think he and Kestrel make a cute couple.

age difference means more when you're young.
for example, I personally (and I think most people would agree with me on this) wouldn't look twice at hearing that some 165 year old guy was married to some girl 147 years old.
but when that 147 year old was just 20? the guy would be like 38 or so!
so I suppose age differences for rac-cona may vary from what we're used to which may play a part in how we look at things.
