Okay, first of all, the Peanuts characters would always say "AUGH!" not "ARGH!"

Secondly, it doesn't matter whether Quentyn is justified or not in allowing some of the gang to be killed. He killed several Gragum in order to save his own life and the life of another. That nearly tore him up.

Imagine how he would feel if he caused the death of several racconans, just to get to his sword.

Where's the brilliance I witnessed a few days ago? What on earth happened to your collective intellect? You figured out the lux battery; use that knowledge!

Get this through your heads: Quentyn does not have to get anywhere near the wreckage! I, for one, would be very surprised if he did. The moment the wards are down, the moment the tappers are out, the moment Wildcard gets any charge and reconnects with Quentyn, it will come straight to him, intervening material, dead or alive, be damned.

Of course, I could be completely wrong. . . . ;)

*Hums and wanders off.*

P.S.: No, Quentyn does not have to set foot in the area to deliver the barrel.

Apples and oranges. The Gragum didn't beat him to a pulp beforehand. Look again at the panel when he grins before scaring the tree-apes. He knew what he was doing and what would happen....or what could happen. And frankly I don't think he cares.

Awwww, but don't they all look so cute with their poor despairing muzzles lifted in union?

* sigh *

Makes me want to start a rac-conan boys-town choir... :)

The evil part of me pictures Quentyn picking his way through the rubble,

"Ohh, that left a mark!"

"My, sorry, is that your face? Oops wrong end..."

"Today kids, let's talk about gravity! So can anyone hazard a guess about what gravity does?"

etc, etc, etc,

I guess the lethality of the structure collapse depends on the weight of the building materials involved. Remember Star Trek's styrofoam starship structure? It looks heavy, but really isn't. Balsa wood is lightweight, but very strong for its mass. Plaster is heavier, but it does disintegrate fairly easily under lateral pressure. Well, we'll see what happens next...

I agree with Casveg, though, if the barrel is a flash lux-charger, once the treasure room's wards lose integrity, Wildcard should return happily to its owner for a touching reunion, with lots of tail wagging and drooly doggy kisses... Oh, wait, I'm thinking of lassie. Well I guess Quentyn could... uh, nah...

the main bit of infromation that makes me disagree with the norms of rac-cona civilization that I've learned about from the Uber CD is their second national pass-time... arguing.

They hadn't beat him up, but they had held a little girl captive for days tormenting her, and they had also threatened the freedom if not the lives of the entire group. I think the provocation there would have been at least the same, and I'd think Quentyn would feel at least as bad about having killed any of the gang members.

I could be wrong, but it would seem consistent to me.

I will not be surprised if one or two of the gang members are killed. If you go back a look at Sunday's strip you will see at least two Redcaps holding Knives and I am sure they are not planning on buttering bread with them. :(

waitaminuite!

what if that's what Quentyn was planning! with the redcaps and the Royals tearing each other's throats out someone's gotta stop em from killing one another, and the only way to do that with all of them is to get something big to get their attention.

and provide Quentyn with yet another distraction to give them so he can get wildcard back (however he'll do it I suppose we'll soon see.)

indeed....

my question is ain't wildcard wrapped in silk currently??
doesn't that keep it from charging, and if so even if the house
comes down wouldn't it still be wrapped since it is in a cupboard?
so if it is still wrapped in the wreckage wouldn't it need to be
unwrapped for that battery thing to work???

again this is all in speculation.

1.) Those protections aren't quite up to the job in any case.
2.) Collapsing the building should at least knock some of them loose.
3.) Analogy: A sufficient number of volts can break down almost any amount of insulation.
Main body of this point: We have no precise idea how much power is stored in the barrel, but I am going to venture a guess that the energy density involved is AT LEAST that of black powder, and may be all the way up to plastic explosive and/or TNT (not sure which of those has the higher energy density).

No, Wildcard wasn't wraped in silk, it was infack on open display behind what looked like nothing more than some wire mesh(might've been some glass too, but in either case it's only there as a "don't touch" measure). They used tappers to keep it drained and some wards to start screaming if someone forgot to change the tappers.

The barrel isn't likely to explode, per se, though with the ammount of lux it's stored up, when it goes off things will get... Interesting. :D

Plastique, C-4, Cyclonite..(all "plastic" explosives) have a much higher enegy density....good term BTW. Plastics detonate rather than explode, and PrimaCord (Det-Cord) is nothing more than a hollow tube filled with C-4. It "burns" at over 12,000 meters per second. TNT (Tri-Nitro-Toluene) deflagrates at a much lower level.

Well I don't think anyone thinks that it will explode with kinetic and thermal energy released... but the rate of Lux release might be on a par with the amount of energy per millisecond released from an explosive... although it could be a somewhat slower release, take as long as... say one minute to discharge (or to discharge 95% is it is an exponential fall off).

Which reminds me... (just so nobody beats me to the correction of my earlier statement):
Gasoline and kerosine and deisel fuel (one of the two types) are all pretty close to the same thing, and that sort of thing actually has MORE energy density than conventional explosives if I remember correctly. It is just that in a continuous mass it is much slower at releasing it. This is why cars have fuel injection or carborators or whatever to atomize the fuel and part of the reason that Fuel Air Explosive bombs are so effective.

Hi... *waves hesitantly* I'm new.

Just wondering... could the Royals have tampered with Wildcard in any way so that it wouldn't respond to Quentyn any more?

Alright! You guys behave! Be nice to the new guy!
Elfie...leave your sanity at the door and under no circumstances feed Solidus.

Anyway, as per your question... I doubt it...WC would be pretty hard to mess with outside of a lab environment.

Greetings Elfie...*extends paw*...I'm S'aaruuk (Sha-Rook)...welcome to the asylum.....pull up a chunk o' carpet and join us......and, if you DO decide to slip Solidus a little snack, you might want to use these.

*hands Elfie a pair of 5 ft long articulated tongs.*

And NO Squeaky.....they ARE NOT CHINESE....articulate or otherwise!!! :D

To add to Madmoonie.....Wildcard was bonded to Quentyn in a drunken haze by Kestrel. Not even she remembers all of how she did it, but WC is bonded to Quentyn for life. Pretty much nothing can be done to the sword to permanently render it un-responsive to him.

Welcome Elfie, Glad you could join us. I hope you have a cable or DSL connection. You see now that you've been hooked you are going to go back to the beginning of story and read every page to catch up. You may feel this is not necessary but believe me you will. You may ask questions about the story but in the long run you will want to read them all like everyone else who came in late to the story. I know because I speak from experance. If you have dial up well, let's say it will take a while....

Oh, to help you out here is the link that explains Wildcards bond to Quentyn.

another question?
what makes the sword home in on quentyn anyway??
if it is something like that locator spell?
does it home in on d.n.a???
or some thing else like...
i don't know your spirit or something???
and if it is like the locator spell wouldn't you be able to
trick it to go another way or in circles like they
did with the tracking of the little swamp girl????
