Rock salt is basically sodium chloride, just not as pure as table salt.
I doubt if Quentyn would leave the device in an outdoor location near the luxfont just because he needed a place to put it. I think it's a pretty safe bet that he left it where he did so it could collect lux. I wonder how heavy that thing is. Quentyn is probably not in the best shape to be moving something big like that around.
After what we all expected, I'm surprised Quentyn had nothing broken and all of his body parts intact. And I'm particularly surprised the Royals didn't take his journeyboots. (Dunno about his glimmer rope - did he even have that with him while he was with the Royals, or was it in his backpack with Squidge the whole time?)

His leaving it near the luxfont for purposes other than lux would only work if folks would for some reason stay away from the spot because it was the luxfont, which means that the luxfont would be the cause of the spots isolation, and the isolation would be the element for which the spot was chosen.mwalimu wrote:I doubt if Quentyn would leave the device in an outdoor location near the luxfont just because he needed a place to put it.
So I guess my question needs to be, is there any reason a spot right under the luxfont would be avoided because it was right under the luxfont. (There might not be, of course. That's why I'm asking.)
Well, technically, you did just now.Astral wrote:*Comes belting in from outside* Did someone say Ice cream!

I guess it never occured to him. But I guess he's trying to live up to the Questor name, as the Questors in the history books probably worked alone.
Both a heart and a brain are necessary for survival. Without one, the other will quickly perish.

I guess he might not want to get them involved in this for their safety, they might get hurt and quent is probably happier accepting the risk on his own, even if it does make it a bit harder. Either that or he views it as his fight alone
Anyway, im just going to throw out my 2c about the barrel ...
Id lean towards the idea that its a battery and not a lethal bomb for a few reasons.
Firstly, i just dont think Quent is a killer, we know that he doesnt pride himself in taking a life (just check the gragum saga) and even if he is being affected by his bond i think that that is only manifesting as a strong determination to get it back rather than a "im gonna kill them all" psycho trip. Even causing gratuitous injury is beyond what i think he's morally capable of.
Secondly, like maxgoof said, copper and salt are two specific ingredients in a galvanic cell (aka battery) ... all right, so the salt is meant to be in solution and there needs to be another metal for the anode but i think it lends itself more to the idea of a battery than an explosive. (although the lux capacitor idea is a good one ... im i dont know enough about the chemistry of a capacitor to decide about that but maybe its similar to half a battery?)
Finally, he mentioned that he'd done alot of similar projects in school ... now i dont know about you guys but our teachers never let us within 50 feet of any explosives during chemistry, let alone teaching us how to make the stuff (something about chemists = pyromaniacs or something similar
)
Also, id expect the chemistry needed to make an explosive in our world would be just as difficult as doing it in his, ie it wouldnt be "deviously simple" ... again, another reason why id back the idea of a battery or a charged capacitor.
anyway, thats the end of my 2c for now ... i guess the idea of quent killing someone out of revenge is just something i feel strongly enough about to object to in three different ways.

I think he is going to try and burn out the tappers with it. That way WC can charge so the next time he attacks, it's fun time!

I use techno bable myself, keeps an air of mystery around me, also keeps me from telling the user just how simple and boneheaded the mistake was.Aurrin wrote:Ah, yes, one of our favorite phrases in the computer lab. Yes, sir. I agree completely. It takes a well-balanced individual... such as yourself to rule the world. No, sir. No one knows that you were the third one... Solidus. ...What should I do about the woman? Yes sir. I'll keep her under surveillance. Yes. Thank you. Good-bye...... Mr. President.

So you always multiply your estimated repair time by a factor of four?SolidusRaccoon wrote: And I use the Scotty rule.

There is something to be said for competent silence.
It is called a Wackadu if I remember the spelling right. A dirt simple weapon with that multiplies the force of impact, but also has a delitarious effect on the structure of the weapon (they tend to go 'bang' into splinters after a while if I remember correctly).MAcbeth wrote:Personally I am less worried about the "bomb" (although all the talk about rock salt does remind me of that scene in Kill Bill) and more concerned with his rune covered wacking stick.

first off,
MAcbeth! welcome to the forums!
be sure to hand in your sanity at the front desk,
don't start a nuclear war in front of Wayfarer,
and whatever you do, do not feed solidus after midnight...
more on topic, if a wackadu is going to splinter and break after too long, then be sure to make more then one!
I'd go for a self burning/burn accellerating piece of driftwood with a 3 second timer on it, just activate with a little pulse of lux and throw!

Just when is it ever a good idea to feed Solidus?

Something tell me that The royals will remember all their life the moment where our little questor come back and turn the place upside down for his sword. This will be nasty. And for your information he doesn't need a pipe bomb. He collect enough of fish poppers to blow up the whole building if he mix them with a little of water.
