*gulp* (Nov 12)
He'll be able to walk and he'll come back stronger........remember, even tho' the leader hates the guardsmen, if they mess Quentyn up too badly, it's his (their) belief that the guardsmen will hunt them down one by one if necessary until they find the one(s) who did this to "their" Questor.
Yeah....Quenty's gonna get stomped on and probably have a skin-full of scars to show for it...but he won't be crippled and his spirit won't be broken.
The only thing that might save him now would be a major raid on the place by the guardsmen....or another gang....anybody seen Squidge lately?

Sergeant: "Um, from what I just heard you'll have to wait your turn."
Alternatvely...

Quite frankly, I think everyone is seriously underestimating the amount of damage these guys are going to do to him.

Namely, that should include the basic idea that he should finally ask for some help to get his sword back.mwalimu wrote:this is turning into quite an ordeal for quentyn. first what happened at the party, and now this. i hope something worthwhile comes out of all this for our hero, something better than that he made it out alive.

And maybe he'll learn what every adventure should know. Always carry a back up weapon. It may not be you're favorite blade, but a dagger is better than nothing. Better yet have redundant backups. A dagger or two, maybe a club, anything to keep you from being totally screwed when you lack you're primary blade.
I'm not underestemating the amount of injury they're going to inflict on him. They can't do too much damage to him without seriously endangering his life and that will bring major heat down on them.....so they believe.....but they ARE going to hurt him.....fairly seriously, but not to the point of life threatening.Madmoonie wrote:Quite frankly, I think everyone is seriously underestimating the amount of damage these guys are going to do to him.

To be honest, I'd have a hard time paying regularly for a story this grimSolidusRaccoon wrote:Ok Ralph follow the plan, now you make the strip pay per view. I as always get first dibs.
Any ETA on when this story's going to end? Today's the 6-month anniversary of its start, and strip-wise, it's at 52 vs 62 for the wights story (which only took 5.5 months (10/31/04-4/12/05)).
I can appreciate the "throw rocks at the hero" aspect of story-telling, but this is a bit much

(bowing and scraping to wonderul master RH)
No offense meant, great and terrible RH! But I agree. He did after all say the he was the Questor of Freeman Downs.

it is amazing the kind of pain the body can go through.
occasionally my intestines kink up and I end up bent over in pain.
that and the (record?) number of times I've been hit 'down there'
the times getting beat up in school, usually by people I'd never met or only scarcely recognized.
and I can only imagine (not that I want to) the kind of pain that can be intentionally inflicted.
sometimes, I wonder if getting beat up would even effect me anymore. I'd probably just look back at them afterwords, smile and kill them. (or at least as many as I could catch

But that's the point. If they had killed him, they think they would bring the wrath of the entire guard down on them.Dragoon The Griffin wrote:And thus another villian decides instead of slashing the hero's through with that pointy stick, he'll just take more effort beat the fark out of the hero.
Poor Quentyn...now how is he going to get Wildcard back?
I'd say back to square one, but in this case, I think he's like five spaces back from even that...
Fewmets....

Horribly maiming a cop is going to get his comrads just about as angry as killing one. Thay'd have been better off slitting his through and dumping his body in rival gang territory, killing two birds with one stone. You've got rid of at least one adversary, and can bring the guard's wrath down upon a rival gang.
So, what are the bets on missing apendages? I'm going to say at leas part of one ear will be gone, possibly a finger or toe or two. If they are trying not to kill him no limbs will be missing (too high a risk of death by bloodloss unless they have some method of cauterization, which would take a entire mess of effort, so unless they have a heated blade for some reason that's out of the question), though quite likey many, many bones will be broken. I'd say out hero is going to be out of commision for two-three months, minimum.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's first bionic Rac'cona. Quentyn Quinn will be that Rac'cona. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster. He'll be able to walk and he'll come back stronger........
I agree 100%. This arc has turned into a 'what can I do to him next' plotline and frankly I've lost all interest in it. I'll resume reading the strip when the next arc starts up but for now *pushes the button on the channel changer*I can appreciate the "throw rocks at the hero" aspect of story-telling, but this is a bit much

I feel RH may be going overboard as well. If the beating lasts "a few hours" Quentyn is likely to be in a real mess when it is over. I will see how this turns out, but it is almost too depressing for me to continue with the strip. I'll try wainting a week or two so that there are at least several strips and I can get a feel for the turn this is taking...
Ahhh, but when he does pull through this, it will be that much more satisfying.
We have to keep in mind that Quentyn is still very inexperienced. Most of the Questoring information he has (if the opening of the first story is to be taken as an example) is idealized semi-fiction about well established and experienced professionals.
Quentyn is learning some hard lessons, one of the things I think he will be taking away from all this is how to deal with an adversary equipped with tapper rods, or how can I make use of tapper rods myself in the future when dealing with lux-powered adversaries.
(pursued up a wall by enemies with climbing shoes? Let's watch what happens when we lower our new tapper-rod-on-a-string into their midst... Now THAT'S teamwork, the leader falls first to provide a soft landing area for his subordinates
)
Our hero is learning some very harsh lessons through practical experience. Fortunately, said experience is not killing him. He will need to go over his actions and figure out what he did right and what he did wrong, that is how he will grow and improve. If he learns nothing from this then it will have just been a waste of time and blood.
My $1.02

I can think of a few other nasty things they could do to Quentyn that no one's mentioned yet, but I'm not going to risk giving Ralph any ideas he hasn't already thought of.
