OK Qwentyn, you've found it. NOW what? If these guys have any brains about them at all (which at this point doesn't seem likely, but anyway) that safe is alarmed. And any minute now they're gonna come down on you like a ton of bricks.

As for the pot/booze business..I do drink now and then, but never very much. Never understood the point of getting drunk, mainly because I've seen what it does to people. I don't want to wind up like that, so I refuse to drink to excess. Nothing wrong with a few in moderation though. (Many studies have shown that a drink or two a day is actually GOOD FOR YOU)

Never done any drugs though. No pot, coke, nothing. Not my thing (Primarily because I'm really afraid I'll do something really stupid while high/stoned/whatever) My views on marijuana's legalization though are pretty liberal. I say legalize it. I've known quite a few recreational pot smokers in my life, and aside from the pot they were all intelligent upstanding members of the community. They held steady jobs, they had families, homes, mortgages, the whole 27 feet. The only thing that made them different from their neighbors is they liked to light up now and then. Maybe it's because I haven't seen the dark side of pot use with my own eyes, but I don't see a real problem. Yes, there are people who abuse it, I understand that. There are people who abuse alcohol and that's perfectly legal. There were people who abused alcohol when it wasn't, too. Making it illegal won't prevent abuse. Making it legal won't eliminate abuse either. I'm a realist, I can understand that.

I'm not going to launch into a tirade about why pot should be legal. This isn't the time or the place. If you want to know more about why I feel how I feel, PM or email me and if I ever check the stupid thing I'll respond.

One thing we gotta remember is that Quentyn is getting reckless due to the binding. He needs that sword.

But WC has at least three, possibly four wards on it. A couple will not prevent him from removing the sword, as they only are magical wards, designed to detect lux use, but that cord in the upper left has to be a physical ward designed to prevent the case from being opened.

Quentyn isn't stupid, but he might not think this through carefully. Just because the Royals are asleep doesn't mean they can't wake quickly, and even in beer and drug induced stupors, he's drastically outnumbered.

Now, he *might* know enough about such wards to remove them without setting them off. These are, after all, small time hoodlums. They know a smash-and-grab and are not expecting anyone to come in and steal from them. This may be the equivalent of a padlock and hasp, put on poorly, that a simple screwdriver can remove.

But frankly, we still have that conversation he overheard that needs to be investigated. I can't see him getting to WC right now. He'll either try...and get caught, and brought before *their* boss, or Quentyn will play it cool to find out a better way to get WC out....and learn stuff in the meantime.

Heh. It's not a coincidence that my character Yuoo is a monk.

Interesting side note: Beer was invented by monks.

Come to think of it, I guess you could say that Yuoo is more like a Buddhist monk. I mean, he is a Christian, and he wears the big green robe and the shiny mithril cross necklace, but as a general lifestyle (especially dietarily) he's more like a Buddhist monk.

one problem might be who the royals are guarding their treasures from.

think about it, this is a den of thieves and quentyn just stumbled upon the hoard!

I'm thinking visions of dragons sleeping on top of their treasures to guard them.

they'll probably have wards enough to keep them from being pilfered by other royals that want just a little more then their fair cut. though admittedly this doesn't do them much good if there isn't someone amongst them that can take the wards down or get past them.

as such unless quentyn is experienced with ward removal, it might be just a tad difficult to remove WC unnoticed or unharmed. and that isn't considering what might happen if there is someone else who is unstoned and undrugged, (it would make sense to me for such a person to exist in the royals otherwize they wouldn't have anyone to keep a lookout durring their parties)

just a thought.

He might, with a lot of luck, be able to get wc with a smash and grab. With the wards the whole place would get woke up, and he'd end up having to kill them. not a good plan. I'm a suprised that wc isn't wraped in mage proof silk, since I seam to recall the leader ordering it so. That is ofcourse easily explained by lazy stoned subordinates that don't follow orders out of his site, or he could have changed his mind at some point.
I rather hope Q will play it cool because there is clearly more mystory that he needs to unravel. Even if we don't assume that the royals are related to the political mechenations going on, there's the matter of the human coins. I believe that some one is paying the gangs to stir up trouble. Some one with influence probobly plans to step up and deal with that trouble in a way that will increase their own influence, and further their political adgenda. That the royals apear to have been paid w/ human coins sugjest the conspirers are in cohouts w/ humans.

I was thinking that myself, that Rac'Conan society is not as "isolated" as it appears to be on the surface. Where else do they get human coins except from humans? Through stealing? Through deals? Second parties that get it for them? Who knows.

This is getting good, now that his bad luck has temporarily worn off. I'm expecting that someone will discover him before he has a chance to grab WC, and be forced to play it cool with the Royals for a bit longer. Or, he'll just be plain smart and decide opportunity might come later... but if they're planning to fence the sword, he'd best hurry with a plan.

There are a bunch of wards like the ones the Millfolks used and that glass is probably warded to, if broken. Regardless of the fact that these guys are gang thugs, they will not simply let their treaure be walked off with. If even someone spies Quentyn in their treasure room, someone is bound to notice and become suspicious. In spite of this, I think Quentyn should try the smash and grab job. In their inreated state they will be less responsive and slower to react, which might give Quentyn the edge and time he needs to get out there.

If WC has enough of a charge in it, Quentyn can "call" it right to his hand and not have to climb on anything. And at this close range, if the gang suddenly appeared, the danger would trigger WC into smashing thru the box to come to Quentyn's aid......again, this is dependant upon whether or not WC has a sufficient lux charge.

Yeah, the story scenes to the game Xenosaga are really long! Actually, I "started" as in starting for the night. I'm about 20-something hours into the game now.

As for how to get Wildcard, hmm... I don't know. Cut a hole through the wall on the other side?

Those are lux wards
The cylinders are lux tappers, they are made to drain magical artifacts. Though, they stop functioning once saturated or shorted out.
And the box itself is made to drain the lux of the contents, and keep them drained.
