This is little off topic, but I really like the third panel, with a low perspective up at the gang leader. I think it generates a interesting mood and the danger of the leader. Well done, RH.

The girl might be a danger without being dangerous herself. What if she decides to run her fingers through Quentyn's hair before he can stop her and reveals his white forelock?

I'm pretty sure the significance of that would be lost on a bunch of hooligans, unless most of them are fairly educated in their history, which I doubt they care about. They'd probably just see that as an oddity of his (maybe even give him a nickname for it).

And yeah, this is a pretty clear connection to that little "ploy" the two shadowy figures were talking about! How far up could this go?

Certainly some of them can read, and they may have seen the newsript story of Quentyn, which had a picture of him. That white forelock is pretty distinctive for someone his age.

Precisely what I was going to suggest.....and that also follows with the possibility that Quentyn's pic has been seen in the scripts.

I have more irrelevant questions! So HA! When is Quentyn EVER going home? He is the Questor of Freeman Downs, but has yet to actually get BACK there. Is one adventure after another going to keep him in....whatever that city is called. Another question....what happened with Fen? Is he still in that ring? Or is Quentyn going to solve that problem to when he is done with the Royals?

And I think that bandana is going to come off sooner or later, and someone is going to recognize him from the scripts. Even they don't read, they surely would recognize the picture. Personally I think the shadow organization that Quentyn saw is plotting to cause the gangs to war that will spill out into the other district of the city, there by requiring a more intense military presence, and with military already there, giving a prime opurtunity to inact a coup and/or expand the borders. By force, if necessary.

Who said they can't? Vocabulary used in news stuff isn't very complex, so even with a basic level of literacy you can under stand them, and most have a basic level of literacy. For honest folk it's so you know what your're buying and how much it costs, reading streat signs (which have been around sience the roman era), and other basic functions, like simple contracts and bills. Theives need it for such the same reason, pus writing is a good way to discuss plans for stuff, you can be overheard, but it's kind of hard to not notice someone reading over your shoulder. Don't assume just because they're thugs they're stupid. Also note that mass media needs to be undestood by the populace, if the lower classes can't read then newspapers aren't going to be too prevalent. And finally, who says they have to have read the article, news does get discussed, word of mouth passes things also.

The gangs may be down and out, but I wouldn't assume they're illiterate. Having said that, it's quite possible the Royals don't know about the recent Questoring events in the news. Remember, the primary scrips all just sort of swept it under the rug; the only ones that gave it any coverage to speak of are the "Fact & Opinion" and possibly some of the other secondary scrips that the Royals might not have read. Keep in mind also that the Rac Conan don't have photography and all pictures are artist's renderings. Even if the Royals have seen the F&O, could Aislynn's picture of him be detailed and accurate enough for someone to recgnize him?

Just supposing that the Royals do know about the Questor who's been in the news, and Quentyn's forelock gets exposed... If he's astute, he could just claim that he's a fan of Questor books and decided to dye his forelock. And the gangleader, if he's astute, might ask Quentyn why, if that's the case, he would wear a headdress that covers it up.

I think I'm thinking too many moves ahead. Time to relax and see how the comic plays out.

I think that the only way he's going to get discovered is if he's seen by the guy who stole his sword...

...which again might not even happen, since I doubt that the smash'n'grabber got that much of a good look of Quentins face.

I think he'll just play it cool and then slip off to find his sword, get discovered - then pull out some mega wildcard mojo... at which point the city guard probably storms the place, old groin-pain proclaims Quentin a member of the royals and tries to arrest him - more wildcard mojo and then out of town real quick

Already been discussed. The kid who stole his sword is the same kid that Quentyn rescued. If he doesn't realize who he is, the only risk at all is that someone recognizes his picture from the 'scrips. And while I don't think the gangers are illiterate, I doubt that they're the sort who worry too much about newspapers.

Remember there is the first, wildly WRONG picture of him floating around...

"Eight feet tall and fartn' thunderbolts" was the original discription.

I think they're about to be disapointed.

Another thing to remember--no cameras.

The picture of him in the paper was a sketch. Yes, they got more accurate with the second one than with the first, but even with an actual photo, seeing someone in real life wearing different clothes, in a setting you would not expect to see him in....he won't be recognized from that.

The only ones who *might* are Scratch when he can see through two eyes again, or <a href="http://npc.keenspace.com/d/20031225.html">the Royals who hung out and made fun of him when he first got to Sanctuary City</a> but even then, they were looking at his clothing more than he himself.
