Ohhhhhh, I need this

Yes, sir. I agree completely. It takes a well-balanced individual... such as yourself to rule the world. No, sir. No one knows that you were the third one... Solidus. ...What should I do about the woman? Yes sir. I'll keep her under surveillance. Yes. Thank you. Good-bye...... Mr. President.

Here in Montana, the carport would be the least of the problems with it -- my people are much given to carport gigantism. :)

I would still think a harrier would be more practical seeing as you could land it in your backyard, if i had a mig id have to land it on the highway and taxi for an hour to get to my house. XD

Oh don't worry -- I'm an informed buyer. When I go to the Used Fighter Jet Lot and the salesman tries to sweet talk me about sidewinder missiles and 20mm rockets, I stop him dead and say "Does it have VTOL?" 8)

I think the United Stated miilitary would have something to say about a functional jet fighter running around in civilian air space. I am not sure, of course.

The mere sight of the cardboard box insignia on the wings would strike fear into any opposition's heart...
"Every revolutionary idea seems to evoke three stages of reaction. They may be summed up by the phrases: (1) It's completely impossible. (2) It's possible, but it's not worth doing. (3) I said it was a good idea all along."

Well, one gentleman bought a ship bound for the scrapyard, a cruiser or something small, but the navy that owned it forgot to remove two (I believe) two .50 cal AA guns from her before they gave the vessel to him. The navy then sent an a destroyer or possibly or something even bigger or even more than one, to stop him from getting in their territorial waters, until he surrendered the weaponery. Do you want to face a raptor?

This has already been hashed out. There is no rule against buying a jet fighter - but the hardpoints and cannon have to be removed/disabled. There already is at least one late-model MiG owned by a US citizen.

Let me give you all something to think (or be very worried) about.....I know the folks selling this little toy....personally. :o

And YES!!! They are reputable and LEGAL!! :P

And Kerry's quite right.....it is legal to own and fly "de-Mil'ed" military fighter aircraft.....prop or jet powered. MOF, a husband/wife ex-Navy pilot team now own and fly one of the last Lockheed F-104 Starfighters in civilian hands.

There used to be a reg about civilians not owning supersonic aircraft or having anything that could reasonably approach that speed.....this has since been redcinded....now pretty much the only constraint on ex-Mil birds is that they be un-armed.

The thing is, that's a helluva deal, a fully servicable, flyable Russian aircraft, and a very famous one at that, two spare engines, one brand new, and all for just under a quarter mil? Not bad.

Yeah, it sounds like a sweet deal, until...

You factor in the running costs...
(Fuel is the least of the costs.)

And that you can't fly it on a normal small aircraft license.

But it would bave been nice to have, just to buzz those idiots who think having a 60' floating Tupperware container is the sign of greatness...
My name is Lion, Anthony Lion.
