[...unWARP!!!]

Good evening.

I just wonder why it didn't occur to Quentyn to call any guardsmen during his chase.

Still, if Wildcard is unwrapped, won't he immediately sense it as it starts to recharge?

That depends on how smart the thieves are. If they know they have a powerful lux-charged artifact (clue with the mage proof silk) they won't let it out until they know they can analyse it better in secret.

Bonded items have been known to exist in the past. If they know it is bonded they might either try to break that bond, or destroy the object before Quentyn can get a good "fix" on it.

If they are foolish, and don't take the purple (black) blade as a clue. They will leave it unwrapped too long, it will recharge and the real fun will begin.

You all keep forgetting the pervasiveness of 'magic' in the Seven Villages. It's used in everything from industrial machinery to children's toys.
On the plus side, don't forget that the best diviner in the seven villages is seriously in Quentyns camp. Whatever they are using to block Quentyn might not be so impenetrable to Nessie.
Nessie is having her own troubles. Kenning the dynamics of a living, breathing swamp is a smidge different than kenning a teeming city, namely one full of magic users and magic devices--- especially as many of those magic users will have set up all variety of magical "privacy screens" that would inadvertently block her view.
As for local toughs, don't forget: small as he is Quentyn, with or without magic weapons, is a pretty tough customer himself. He also now has the experience to lend him some needed self confidence.
Quentyn is a little tougher now, yeah, because he was trained.

Those city kids are tough because they have to SURVIVE.

Take nothing for granted.

Hey Sol...I got my Cat D-5 bulldozer APC with quad .50's on a 360 gimble mount, side mounted Mk19 40mm belt fed grenade launchers and fore & aft flamethrowers.....got anything you'd like to add, and would you like to join me in a little "urban clean-up & renewal"?

That doesn't sound like you. Maybe if it was an air/fuel bomb instead? All the fun of atomics without the neutrons.

We're still trying to figure out who they are. A lowly cutpurse looking for opportunities? Some of Rahan's seedy acquantences? Some of the followers of Rosad Beither looking for revenge? Two wights trying to make a wrong?

An FAB would be very effective, got several on hand, but the concussion wave could damage some of the older structures in the main part of the city. This way is a bit more "surgical"......like with a chainsaw rather than a "daisy cutter". And trust me, the 40mmHE's from the Mk19's can raise all manners of hell with these flimsy structures. 8)

These guys are pros, and sealing Wildcard off from Quentyn's kenning indicates some serious preparation, since he could sense it through magesilk. I'm leaning toward cultists for now, but Ralph will probably surprise us again. Quentyn ought to back off and get the Guard involved at this point, but I don't think he will.

Where's the next strip? I wanted another strip today! I'm going to go into withdrawal!!

well Quentyn already said he could only faintly sense wildcard. Maybe the theif just got enough distance between them for him to lose it, or figured out that that was how he was being tracked and ducked into privacy-warded area.

Quentyn said that it "winked out" leading one to believe that somewhere or something suddenly blocked out it's trail. This rather than fading to nothing as the distance increased.

And again, my concern is for Quentyn and how he's going to physiologically react to being totally cut off from Wildcard.....especially as the isolation period grows.

Hopefully he can get some good payback.
Yes, sir. I agree completely. It takes a well-balanced individual... such as yourself to rule the world. No, sir. No one knows that you were the third one... Solidus. ...What should I do about the woman? Yes sir. I'll keep her under surveillance. Yes. Thank you. Good-bye...... Mr. President.

Ralph (or someone who genuinely doesn't care about quenton) is the only
one who has reason not to worry about the questor.
