Yay, yippee, yahoo, hooray!
*Jumps up and down and spins around and around and around, cloak whirling in a big circle around her.*
I saw the trailer for the Narnia movie in the movie theater!!!
It was the highlight of the evening!!! Happiness!!! :D
(What was I there to see? Oh, yeah, the Star Wars movie. Eh, well, one must have priorities.)
*Stops jumping and spinning for a moment...*
And now, in case there are any Star Wars-style heavy weapons aimed at me, I think I will be going back to the safety of silent spying.
Whirls around and retreats through wardrobe door. (But of course leaves the door slightly open, because everyone knows what a bad idea it is to enter a wardrobe completely shut the door behind them. :D )

movie trailers are always a good thing, and i'd rather point my death star at the "enterprise" and then aim my genesis torpedo at "tatooine"

i'll have time to invade narnia when the war is over.

But of course - 3 1/2 Stars (out of 4). Overall very enjoyable. Some nits to pick on some dialog and a few important scenes that differed from the book kept it from getting 4 stars (no descriptions yet to avoid spoilers).

Thought the characters were well done and acted. James McAvoy was superb as Mr. Tumnus. Great voice acting and the animal animation was near perfect.

I recommend everybody run out and see it - right now!

But... but I can't!!!
*Must wait to go see it with her family, which means waiting until next Friday or later.*
Oh, well, I suppose if I don't think about it, waiting is not that bad...

And now, back to my essay...

Seen it twice so far. A+

I think they should have had Susan fire arrows a few more times than once. It was like they had to put that in there to justify giving her the bow. And the scene with the dagger at the archery range....unnecessary, and unbelievable.

But the woman who played the White Witch....Oooooh....she was magnificent. Who taught her those moves in the battle scene? WOW!!

[...unWARP!!!]

Good evening.

There was a BBC production that more or less followed the book, but the SFX and costumes were the worst!

:D I've seen those (LWW, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and The Silver Chair). In fact, I have them. Whenever I hear other people talking about them, they say how horribly made they were. I think I saw them and got used to them at a time when I was too young to notice or care, because I never thought they were that bad ('course it has been years since I saw them last).

That was also around the time when it was something of a family habit to nit-pick about the details of a movie that was based on a story we knew. Aside from the obligatory nit-picks, I do remember those being rather accurate, and I think a good deal of what I have memorized from the stories could probably be credited at least as much to those movies as to the books (okay, so probably more).

No, it's not at all like the book. Aslan is suddenly rescued before he is sacrificed by a hoard of his followers, the White Witch calls foul, and all of Narnia is destroyed.

Heh...like you'd believe that...

MmmmmmHmmmm, like that one wouldn't ruin the movie-makers' careers.

They stayed 90% with the book, and the differences were not gratuitous but appropriate to the change of medium.

They did it RIGHT!!!

I agree!

I encourage everyone to go see the movie, take their families, take the dog, pull random strangers off the street and get them into the theater! :D

There were a few nit - picks like **** ***** ** * *******, I didn't think that was permissible, or ****** ****** * ******* *****, especially after the main battle. But like the Lord of the Rings, I thought they did an excellent job in maintaing the spirit of the book. (Censored for the sake of Wayfarer  )

I like to complain when Hollywood messes something up, so it's only fair I cheer them when they get it right. Now I have to wait for the extended edition DVD...

( "Private" joke to Wayfarer)

I know the exact scene when Tandarion would have lost it, it's in the book, but slightly modified in the film, but his reaction:

"WHAT?! Vile sorceress! How DARE she!" "I'll teach her what it means to trifle with a fox of the Trivalian Royal Guard!"

*disappears*

*30 seconds later DHL arrives at the front door*

Who ordered the fox-knight statue?

Ah, just leave him on the front lawn, give the pigeons something to poop on until Aslan gets around to here.

(Dont worry, we'll keep him hosed off... :) )

Censored because I haven't seen it, or censored so I don't have occaision to get threatening and scary in proctectiveness of the story? :D

Neither would have been a real problem for me - it's impossible to ruin a story for me by telling me what happens. I'm the type of person who has absolutely no qualms about reading the last few pages of a book first (much to the chagrin of a few of my friends  ). I almost enjoy it more when I'm not constantly wondering what's coming.

I'm sure BlasTech, however, will thank you. :D

And as far as errors... I like to joke around, but really, I can be reasonable. I can understand slight modifications for the sake of time, etc. It's when they mess with the meaning of a story, or the nature of a character (*ahemFaramirinLOTRahem*) that I get... grandly annoyed, shall we say?

I do believe I could guess the part you're talking about. :D (A small group's Christmas celebration in the woods, by chance?)
And he probably would have woken up somewhat like Giant Rumblebuffin, still looking around wanting to attack her.

Narnia

Went to see it over the weekend.
Overall, at the risk of defenestration, I consider it a very good movie, but not a great movie.
The battle scene was well done. "Action" without going over into "gore". Family safe.
The children were adorable without being schmaltzey. A bit more background on them and their family than I remember from the books (it's been awhile).
My only complaint was with the special effects.
When the animals talk and move, you believe you are watching real, talking animals. Very well done.
So what am I complaining about?
With this quality of sfx, why are there scenes where people are standing against a mountain vista or some such, and it is glaringly obvious that it's fake? It looks like something out of the sixties.

Side note: according to an early november article in newsweek, one movie company wanted to shoot Narnia as taking place in a post-earthquake Los Angeles! :o
Luckily, C.S. Lewis' family retains rights to the stories and shot that one down in a hurry! After the success of 'Lord of the Rings', producers were beating on their doors to do it right! :D
