Would not surprise me if he collects at least one new one each adventure.

Depends on how many strange and unusual creatures he manages to impress while doing his job. Could be none, or he could end up impressing several at once! He's definitely making his own name among the Rac Cona Daimh, that's for certain.

In many cultures names have a special form of power.

IMO Quentyn is merely gathering history. As the Seven Villages doesn't have mass media the way we do, the list of names is his resume. As a questor he'll collect an impressive list.

A prophet has no honor in his own country; likewise, Quentyn's going to get respect from the racconan people, as a whole, last of all at this rate.

Consider: Quentyn's had two adventures thus far. In the first one, he earned the respect of the crocs, but not even of all those who live in his home village. Those who weren't present, by and large, discount the story as implausible at best.

In his second adventure, he earned the respect of one significant family in Sanctuary and the brownies, but the Powers that Be are already squashing the story. The official word put out is that brave little Quentyn flushed out a few pesky wights, isn't he a stout little lad. If he tries to tell the full story, the Council will as much as say that he's a liar. Either way, he's not getting much, if any, respect from those who don't have firsthand knowledge.

I think it's safe to say that Quentyn's not going to have a lot more business than before, even if there were a sudden monster explosion. Most folks just do not believe in a short, runty, adolescent kid who runs around playing a chivalric knight-errant for hire. The story is too ludicrous for words- and the fact that it's true doesn't make a bit of difference.

Quentyn will have to keep proving himself, over and over, unfortunately.

It's a classic medieval thing for warriors and adventurers to collect titles for their accomplishments. One of the reason they kept Heralds around was to announce them and their accomplishments, as examplified in "A Knight's Tale":

"Without further egging the custard,

Granted, those specific accomplishments were all made up, but you get the point: if you were a professional adventurer/warrior in those days, you collected titles everytime you did something big. ...That was your resume.

What Quentyn needs to do is look up his old Bard friend, and maybe convince him to do a proper "embellished" introduction for his next public appearance.

After all, he does want people to start thinking he's 8 feet tall and farting thunderbolts..

Been suggested to me already......I'm workin' on it. I would, however, appreciate some input as to genre or style that might fit best. I have a few ideas of my own, but would welcome any and all suggestions.

More medieval than celtic, I think. BUt I don't know what the exact difference between the two is.

But, I'd think something of a mix between the two for the tune, and have the words fit.

Thats how songs are made, thats how ballads work, you have a story to tell, you find the medium, which is the tune, and then you fit the words to the medium.

Besides, often a theme song is just a strain that plays against the background music. It doesn't often have to be a full on show opening...

...allthough Tales of the Questor, the Animation! Sounds like a lot of fun... who here is good with flash?

I do need to point one thing out though....I do mostly instrumentals. I couldn't write lyrics if my life depended on it.

I have in my <home> studio, 3 KORG high-end professional keyboards on a triple tier stand, assorted support gear, (6000W worth of power audio amps, cross-overs, patch-bays etc) and a 16ch, 128 track digital recorder/edit bay with master CD authoring/burning. The bare essentials.

If someone would like to try and write some lyrics and send them to me, that might be a considerable help in laying down an actual melody and accompaniment. Otherwise I was just thinking of a grandly orchestrated opening theme and some incidental/ambient background music.

I could try to whip something up, but I'd need to know what time signature you're planning on using.

I've also tried my paw at lyrics for songs and ballads...

But, like DMH, I'd need something from the song. I work from a tune I come up with in my head and base the lyrics on that.

Also, I'd want to wait a bit longer before we actually start constructing..

Just until the end of this adventure, at least. I want to see was Master Irons has to say.

Might as well mention that I sent some lyrics to Sharuuk a bit earlier tonight, just so folks know. I've been working right now on some slight re-wording, but it's a start on something.

Time sig isn't that important at this particular point. Just put together some lyrics that could tell Quentyn's story. Wayfarer sent me some material last night less than an hour after I suggested it, and it's excellent. Just while reading it, several melodies and time sigs went thru my head.

This could turn into a pretty cool project....for all of us. I could either combine several different sets of lyrics to form one song or a ballad, or I just might write a different melody for each song y'all send.

Lets see where this goes.

I hope it's not like the Ballad of Bilbo Baggins ("bravest little Hobbit of them all...")

Friend of mine showed me a music video to that song, supposedly sung by Leonard Nemoy. Yeah. Spock singin' about Hobbits. Badly.

*sigh* There are some things the 70's and 80's just shouldn't have created. My condolences to Mr. Nemoy on any connection between him and that song.
