As much as I like parodies, you've actually inspired me to make a more serious, though still second-rate, attempt at Tales of the Questor fan fiction.

[...unWARP!!!]

Good evening.

I met a French teen several years ago, and he didn't stink, but that was probably because he was a born again Christian.

That, or he couldn't stand the heat of a tropical jungle where we had a summer Bible camp...

Okay, I don't know how much more bluntly Yuoo could have put it, but enough with the French.

Introduction and peanut butter induced ramblings

Post by GrayTiger »

Greetings all! New-type person what never posted on a forum before ovah heyah!

I've known Mr. Jr from my old days in yiffnet (I didnt die Ben I got married--which is like dying if you think about it) and had to comment on Questor....the one strip of his I never read until recently.

There are many possibilities for other worlds and races here. Let's say that this land has existed for many 1000's of years (go on, say it!)

Now lets say that the Rac cona weren't the first furs to exist on this continent (say it you beret wearing surrender monkey!) and a long extinct race once lived in an area beyond the borders of the 7 Villages....say a race of tigers slightly taller than the rac cona.

Let's say said race of tigers....from an area called the Grealunds....also used lux and had a society similiar to the Seven Villages. They too had Questors except they were called...oh I dont know....Guardians and were different in that the Guardians had special supernatural abilities that set them apart from Questors and other members of said tiger race.

Now let's say said race became corrupted by the pursuit of power and fell into darkness, leading to the utter distruction of them all......except one pure soul who was lead away by a white stag......one lone survivor--mortal yet ageless--called by Yeshu to be....the Last Guardian

just a thought.....any comments?

the Last Guardian
Ooooh!

Okay, the title has the necessary ring to it, at very least. :D

BTW - Greetings in return, and welcome.

Tiger, Tiger, burning bright
In the forest of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?

Here is something from one of my favorite albums that has always inspired my imagination......

"When the world was young, they were already old..."

Since the dawn of time, the Elder have watched silently over a virgin world and all its creatures...
Now, they have assumed the form of mortals so that they might walk amongst men and guide them.
The Elder are an ideal... They embody the wisdom of the ages and the power of goodness and knowledge...
But the Elder were not alone in the beginning and are not alone still... Another force has existed eternally...

In every place, in every time, an evil is loosed whose sole purpose is to destroy all that is good. And in every time, and every place, it is the task of the Elder to find and train a warrior... a champion to conquer the evil.
As the looming clouds gather, the council of the Elder sits at their ancient table under the sign of the Rose. Once again they must combat the evil that is lurking in darkness and spreading throughout the world.
They await the word of Morpheus, the caretaker, whether the boy be deemed ready for the sacred rite of accession to the Order of the Rose... and for the pronouncement of his sacred duty...

The odyssey begins...

If you haven't already, run your idea by RHJ to make sure he doesn't have any problem with it. Many writers and artists have rules and even prohibitions about their characters being used in fan fiction, so it's best to make sure before you invest a lot of time and effort in a story. If he okays it, great, more power to you.

A small recommendation, if I may?

Buy the UberCD. It contains all three SuperCDs, which each contain notes on Rac Cona Daimh culture, as well as an extra Questorverse Beastiary, which has entries on various creatures existing in that world. It would help in case you do write a fanfic, as you'd be able to realistically show their culture and/or any beasts you include in the story. It depends on how accurate you wish to be.

For instance, I had an idea of writing about a catastrophe that destroyed the Seven Villages and forced the Rac Cona Daimh to join with the Gragum in the search for a new home. The problem is that, even though I'd read the entry, I'd made the mistake of thinking a dragon would do the job. Couple points:

1. The Rac Cona Daimh are better armed than pretty much any populace in their entire world, having magical weapons capable of creating a lot of damage. Not a good idea to rile them up.

2. Questorverse dragons are not the near-omnipotent beasts that they are in D&D. They're a natural disaster definitely, but easily handled if you know what you're doing, just like with the natural disasters we deal with.

The result of these two points?

Ralph told me they'd have it killed within the week, if not the day.

I think any would-be invaders had best rethink their plans, and quickly...
I'm lost. I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, please ask me to wait. Thanks.

Hey RHJ, what exactly is your position on fan ficts? I had a doozy of a story/saga hit me while I was laid up with a fever earlier this week and I'd love to put it to paper. (And I'd trade one of the family jewels for the ability to draw -- or maybe I'd part with some greenbacks if some nice fur would teach me *puppy eyes*).

Fanfics

Post by RHJunior »

I have to state that I'm startled, and flattered, that it's reached the point where people are talking about Questor fanfics.

I have to be honest and admit that, no matter what I might say, I could not legitimately prevent anyone from writing fanfics even were I so inclined, or to control what sort of fanfics they write--- save to complain fruitlessly if I were unhappy. People will do what people will do.

That said, I would at least try to make a couple of requests though of those who are going to give it a try....

First that they do a little research if they can. Get their meathooks on my CDs and see what I have written down by way of notes about the Questorverse. Some of the classic tropes of fantasy fiction have been altered, some subtly, some dramatically. To wit, writing a fanfic about a Questorverse character having an encounter with, say, a herd of majestic, etherially beautiful white unicorns will have your readers doing nothing but giggling themselves silly.

Second, the standard disclaimer on any fanfic would be appreciated "---this is a fanfic, based off the work of RHJunior, it is non-canonical and is not directly connected to (etc)"

Third--- and this is a very personal one--- no porn or sexual themes, please. I know for some folks out there it's fun to use a fanfic as a way to stump for the sexual revolution, but so far as my Questorverse is concerned the Revolution has been permanently cancelled.

Also, please, no demons, ghosts/spirits of the dead, seances, mediums, ouija boards, or any of the other trappings of demonology or the occult.
And PLEASE no pantheons of pagan gods dropping out of the sky all over the place. The Questorverse is, as its author is, Monotheistic, and both the divine and the diabolical are, with perhaps one exception, effectively offstage.

I can assure you RHJ, that anything I wrote would be submitted to you first for your official seal of approval. I care enough about this story to want to get it right. I dare say you may very well grow tired of my pm's and emails to clear ideas thru you.

Expect an order for the Uber CD soon then, as soon as I can remember what my paypal password is. :o

Well, here is hoping.
Yes, sir. I agree completely. It takes a well-balanced individual... such as yourself to rule the world. No, sir. No one knows that you were the third one... Solidus. ...What should I do about the woman? Yes sir. I'll keep her under surveillance. Yes. Thank you. Good-bye...... Mr. President.

I don't think so. Magic/lux is a science of sorts, no matter what the dark practicioners -think- is the mechanism. Nothing we've done yet involves any diabolical forces.

If I understand it correctly, the thing that Astral's band of human mages is using isn't Lux at all, but rather something he's calling 'Accera', which follows a completely different set of rules from Lux.
