He's groused 'cause the guy disregarded a long-standing successful practice (having the kits sleep with the adults until they see what the 'terrors' are) to jump on the newest bandwagon and in so doing miss the clues that there was something else going on.
Hadn't traditional practice been followed already, though? Colin's dad had "sat the watch" with him a number of times, and then he brought Quentyn in to do so. And I'm actually missing where the doctor advised anything other than that Colin's mom "not be too mothering." Up until now, I would have guessed that each of the Millfolks' kits had their own rooms, and Colin's sleeping alone had to do with nothing more than the norm of the family. Anyone know exactly what Quentyn is referring to here?

On another note, I completely grant that both Quentyn's physical and mental/judgement faculties are not what they would normally be right now; I think it's been pretty clearly stated. I was actually more responding to the fact that so many people posting seemed to think that the doctor deserved... well, whatever Quentyn was able to give him with that rod, and maybe more.

Yes, sir. I agree completely. It takes a well-balanced individual... such as yourself to rule the world. No, sir. No one knows that you were the third one... Solidus. ...What should I do about the woman? Yes sir. I'll keep her under surveillance. Yes. Thank you. Good-bye...... Mr. President.

Looking at your sig, Solidus... maybe Quentyn should keep the eyepatch... seems in most games now it's dignified and adds a bit of class.

You mean other than the fact that pretty much no-one here, myself included really wants to see Doc get whacked upside the head?..........No!

We're all just blowing hot air based on the comical juxtaposition of dialog and actions here. Couple that with the wide eyes and raised eyebrows on Doc plus Quentyn's tight-fisted grip on the curtain rod.....it's the first impression you're gonna get.

I have absolutely no doubt that he's a compassionate and dedicated healer. Dollars to doughnuts says that he patched up Quentyn...and did a top notch job. Yes, he screwed up the diagnosis somewhat, but based on past experience and the "latest modern treatment" for night terrors. I doubt seriously if he's even heard of wights let alone knows what they are. He may be in a bit of hot water with the Millfolks over this, but Hell NO he doesn't deserve to get thumped on for it. And I really doubt that Quentyn's gonna hit 'im.

Personally, I'll be quite disappointed if he does.

Well it looks like Quentin has gone wacky, and I don't really blame him.

You might remember some of the psych experiments they did on infants and toddlers around the 50's. They separated mothers and babies to study reactions for one. There was a lot of other little horrors passed off as scientific study and these were all done by "highly enlightened and educated people."
Honesty is the best policy, but insanity is a better defence. :shucks:

So far as "sitting up" with the child, yes.

But the necessity of night-sitting came about because parents started stuffing their children off in cubbyholes away from themselves. Initially parents slept in the same chamber with their young, and dealing with the night terrors was much simpler-- as you were already there. When a child was considered old enough to sleep alone, if the child suffered night terrors as a consequence, the parents would first try night-sitting to help him adjust to having their own bevy... then, if the child's sleeping problem persisted, would take them back into the parent's bevy-nest.

More specifically, what's got Quentyn's dander up is that the doctor has not only counseled the mother to put her child off in a seperate room, but to ignore him entirely in his distress and "let him work it out for himself."

Well.......

(A) I was wrong....*again*

(B) Given Quentyn's very loudly stated reasons for chasin' & bashin' on the Doc....a point I failed to take into consideration, ( ) I'm gonna retract my earlier declaration of disappointment.

In other words:

GET 'IM QUENTYN!!! :o

"Educated Idiot"......what a perfect line. And I love the fact that he's doin' this in front of the Millfolks.......lookit the expressions!!!!

By the way, does a bevy-nest look like one of those big bean bag chairs in a whicker box kinda thing? Just wondering.

Awww, c'mon folks, we all know that institutions of higher learning have only the betterment of livingkind in mind.

Hordes of educated experts, (with nominal practical experience) ready and willing to correct the foibles of our dark and underpriveleged lives.

They would NEVER think to do anything harmful to the common individual, or promote their own agendas, would they? =@.o=

Hmmmm, perhaps I should not post after eating the three month old thing in the back of the fridge......

Shoulda consulted a nutritionist... :)
