Hadn't traditional practice been followed already, though? Colin's dad had "sat the watch" with him a number of times, and then he brought Quentyn in to do so. And I'm actually missing where the doctor advised anything other than that Colin's mom "not be too mothering." Up until now, I would have guessed that each of the Millfolks' kits had their own rooms, and Colin's sleeping alone had to do with nothing more than the norm of the family. Anyone know exactly what Quentyn is referring to here? He's groused 'cause the guy disregarded a long-standing successful practice (having the kits sleep with the adults until they see what the 'terrors' are) to jump on the newest bandwagon and in so doing miss the clues that there was something else going on.
On another note, I completely grant that both Quentyn's physical and mental/judgement faculties are not what they would normally be right now; I think it's been pretty clearly stated. I was actually more responding to the fact that so many people posting seemed to think that the doctor deserved... well, whatever Quentyn was able to give him with that rod, and maybe more.
