Ok, Squidge doesn't exactly meet with my definition of handsome... that is completely irrelevent. Different species, different standards of what looks good. Fine. What I have a slight amount of trouble with is a SHAPECHANGER claiming to be good looking... when one doesn't have a fixed form how can you even have a basis for esthetic judgements? On the face of it the statement seems kinda irrational... like claiming that magnetism is 'cuddly'. Ok, I can think of three possible reasons behind this statement:
1.) Squidge is begging for his life. He is skilled at begging (sorta...) and thus doesn't feel the need to confine himself to statements that have any sort of actual sense to them. This seems the most likely.
2.) He is claiming that his 'default' form is handsome by bogey standards... possible.
2b.) He is claiming to have especially good coloration/complection(sp?) (which evidently Bogies CAN'T change (topology only, not coloration)).
3.) He is claiming that he is skilled at assuming handsome forms (or perhaps just that he is a skilled shifter in general and thus always looks exactly as he intends).
Squidge claims he is good looking?
As having played a shapeshifter in several types of roleplays I can tell you that there is a skill to shifting. There are people that can pull off seamless shifts, or are quite skilled at detail. Some on the other end can be poor shifters, either being obvious as to what they really are, confusing when they change shape, or any number of other varibles.
Now, do I think he's actually claiming he's good looking? No, just an excuse to get out of a very dangerous situation. But, there is beauty among shapeshifters.
Frind of mine once said: "When everyone is beautiful, it is what is unique that stands out."
