Have you ever been listening to music when suddenly a scene from or related to something you've read or watched simply pops into mind to accompany it? I found a piece of music that just brings to mind for me Quentyn's first sojurn into Sanctuary City. I've uploaded it to a webspace of mine, and I'd like to see if anyone else agrees. For the moment, I've renamed it to mask the origin, as I'd prefer an ubiased and un-predisposed opinion. Also, tread lightly on the bandwidth of the site, please. I don't want to make my hosts angry. I'll probably keep it up until at least Friday.
The image it brings to mind to me is Quentyn walking down the street through the bustling crowds, seeing the wonders of the city at every turn while simultaneously feeling a bit lost in it all. (And also a partial fade-in of a very pretty young maid singing the vocals ) Anyone else get that, or something different?
Thank you for sharing that song with us. Yeah, I see what you mean about Quentyn feeling lost. It's very difficult to draw a scene exactly like you imagine it. (Unless you want Mr. Ralph to update once every six months.)
I think the most difficult thing about being new in a city like that is all the faces. When you're not used to interacting with so many people things, it can get intimidating.
I also like to imagine myself, as a human, being lead on a tour of Sanctuary. It'd be fun to learn from them about the workings of lux and to teach them what I know about Computer Science: Boolean Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Computation Theory etc.
Speaking of lux, remember when Quentyn and Kestrel visited the Luxfont? A somewhat similar experience I had to that was visiting a waterfall at Mt. Rainier, Washington. The visitors' platform didn't let you get anywhere near the waterfall itself, but you could feel the force of it coming to you from the cold spray and rumbling.
Yeah! That's it exactly, Yuoo! ^_^ And yes, this would be intensely hard to do. Darnit, when are they going to come up with converters for neuro-cognitive process files? =P
And yes, I'd love to be able to visit Sanctuary and see everything and discuss some things in the fields of aeronautics and physics. =^.^=
Call me a gun nut, but I'd like to see what kinda weapons they make. I have an idea for this special crossbow that can fire different bullets with different magical effects. Wouldn't be too hard for them to make, I don't think. Not sure how much lux it would take, but the design could be tweaked a little to increase efficiency.
'Course, with that boomslang of theirs, I wonder if they'd really need my little invention. Put big holes in gragum or give them real bad frostbite?
Decisions, decisions...
I'm lost. I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, please ask me to wait. Thanks.

Sweet stuff! What Album?
"What was that popping noise ?"
"A paradigm shifting without a clutch."

The song is "The Matrix Theme" by Enya and Enigma. I'm actually not sure what album it can be found on, as I obtained it courtesy of WinMX. I've been looking and looking to try to find the actual origin of the song, because I'd love to get the rest of it, but it's proven very elusive, even for google. (In your face, RIAA!) Most searches on it turn up nothing but scores and scores of winamp playlists. (Why?! Why must people put those up?!?! It's infuriating, I tell you!) The best way to find stuff like that is to search the different music-share services for matrix and techno stuff, it turns up alot of really good songs, some of them mistakenly mis-named.
[Edit]
By the way, I'm really glad you liked it. I was afraid that people would be kinda wierded out or think it was communist propaganda or some-such.
Given the fact that I like both Enya AND Enigma, a co-produced song is really cool. I play keyboards and my taste runs from New Age/Meditative to Techno-Rock to Celtic ballads. Hows THAT for diversified? And I agree with you RIAA is SUCH a P.I.T.A. The timbre and rhythm of that song is just catchy and haunting at the same time.....as for the female vocalist.....why not have Meribeth the waitress. Tell me THAT wouldn't mess with Quentyn's mind just a bit....especially if she'd be in a low cut bodice!
Query: Why would I (or 'we') think it was wierd or communist propaganda? The music was great. I didn't get to your website, all I got was the music when I clicked on the link.
Thanks again.....VERY nice music.

Come to think of it, I've got another song that also brings to mind a sort of image like that. I'm even less sure of what it is, and I haven't the foggiest who did it (though I at least know who I got it from, and I think I can ask him). Want me to post it? Most everyone I've ever let listen to it says that they really liked it...
*grumbles* That'll teach me to hit 'post reply' before I refresh the topic...
Yes, I like Enya and Enigma, so it's pretty natural that the two together would be really nice. And I think Meribeth would go well there, especially wearing one of those head-cloth things and a low-cut dress. As for the communist propaganda bit... *glances in RH's direction* I think the ones to whom it would apply know who they are.

(Boy, it shows how late I'm up when I have to keep doing this, no?)
Well, the site is http://www.kitsuneinfo.furtopia.org The 'files' directory is mostly stuff that's only direct-linked, not site-linked. You can poke through it and the 'images' directory, as my site has really long ago lost any semblance of purpose. In particular, I did a comic (and still do sometimes) called "Kit-n-I", which you can find in the 'images' directory. ( http://www.kitsuneinfo.furtopia.org/images/ )

As to your first post on this....I was listening to The Eurhythmics version of "Send Me An Angel" and saw the entire 'rave arc' go thru my head with Ben and Lily dancing to it. MOF I had an entirely different arc in my mind that had the DJ put Ben out in the middle of the floor alone and had Lily come down on a wire flying harness with her fairy wings backlit. As the the lyrics were chanting "send me an angel....right now" and the DJ telling Ben that somebody did.
So you see, you're not the only one that thinks along these lines so don't be afraid to share it.

Wish granted. This song reminds me of the desert. I keep imagining a character (often Quentyn, but many times also my character that lent his namesake to this account) dressed up in adventuring garb (often zelda-esque) adventuring through the harsh, yet beautiful desert. They see the great wonders of the desert, and end up braving it's dangers. Anyone else get something different out of it?
But it also did when you somehow reached the conclusion that Star Trek was 'communist propaganda'. How was I to know what that you wouldn't find some sort of political hatred for the Matrix and refuse to even listen? I didn't want that to derail it before you'd even listened, so I decided not to give the title and artist so you'd be forced to judge it by it's own merits and not by an real or assumed political stigma.

Very cool piece. I can see the imagery you're describing. The style seems to be a unique blend of "Middle Eastern/Metal". Interesting....the opening riff took me a bit by surprize tho'.
Thank you for sharing that one as well.

Yeah, I think it's that middle-eastern bit that brings the desert to mind. I've found it goes well accompanied by "Desert Rose" (by Sting). I'll see if I can bring up some others, I know I've got at least a few that have scenes to go with them, albeit some of them are specific to one of my characters and/or too obvious to bother with.
But it also did when you somehow reached the conclusion that Star Trek was 'communist propaganda'.
Well, there is something to that... ...The Federation is essentially a communistic regime: where everything is apparantly controlled by the Federation government, where the army also seems to double as a police force, and where "free traders" like the Ferengi or Sisko's girlfriend are inevitably connected with the Black Market.
After all... Has anyone ever seen capitalism portrayed in anything but a negative (or neutral) light on Star Trek?
Getting back on topic.. I do enjoy your taste in music. I do have some more mp3s of Matrix musics, including Burly Brawl and others.. They do work well for some fantasy campaigns..
