Monster in closet

Ok, we have been shown that there IS something in there in the previous page, but what we are seeing on the current one has almost GOT to be an illusion. The anatomy, is terrifying, but not especially biologically sensible (then again the same thing MIGHT be said for the ability of a mock-tenticle to maintain balance), the only creature I know of with a mouth near that big in relation to its body size would be a frog or a toad (well, the only LAND going creatures). Specifically, anything it might need teeth that big to bite would be too big for it to swallow. Also the nostrels are disproportionately large.
(Hopes he made a modicum of sense, stumbles off to a long over-due bedtime).

As we used to say in the Nav, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?! That thing does -not- look like much a rat, whatever it is. It does seem to be lux-charged; maybe hitting it with the shorting sigil would work better than that substitute sword.

Quentyn Says:
ring the bell...
ring the bell...
ring the bell...
All I've got to say is, if this is what Colin thinks a mouse looks like, what the heck has he been
chasing in his dads warehouse?
Bad joke of the day: What does a 300 pound taking rat say?
"Heeeeere, kitty kitty kitty."

I gotta feeling that something tinkled. And it wasn't the bell.

I agree with DracoDei.....this thing HAS to be some kind of projected illusion. Go back to when it was coming out of the closet floor. The "hand" holding the floor chunk is in no way proportionate to anything we're seeing here. Also, the "hands" of this thing seem to be attached to the sides of the mouth without wrists or palms.......sorta like the mandibles of the "Predator".
I'm not even gonna address the question of how something that big came up thru a hole in the floor little more than 12-14" or so in diameter.

Was wondering where you got the size reference for the hole until I noticed the boot in the background of the first few frame of the page where the hole gets made.

Hello. I'm new here, but while reading the current and previous comic, something occured to me. Could that thing be a manifestation of someone else's fears? Say Quentin?

After reading the TOTQ bestiary on the UBER CD, my money is on it being connected with the Fey Folk.

Greetings and welcome.
Doubtful that this is a manifestation of Quentyn's fears. Don't know how much you know about this particular story arc, but Colin has been having these night terrors for about 3+ weeks. This is also the first we've seen of what the kit's been seeing......
if this is what he's been seeing and not an "adjustment" for a battle-ready Questor instead of a half-asleep, frightened-out-of-his-mind kit.
I'm not saying this isn't
someone's manifestation, maybe even Colin himself, I really don't know. But I'm about 99.9% sure this didn't come from Quentyn's subconscious.

You haven't seen ferrets or rats in action have you?

Many times. Several friends have them for pets.
However, look at the size of the "toe" claws alone. Now add the "mouth" and "finger" appendaages + teeth and claws. I don't care
how compressable/flexible this thing might be.....unless it's purely gelatenous, <which should
really freak out Quentyn> this thing should
not be able to have come up thru the hole in the closet floor.
I'm betting it's an illusion.

I'd put my vote in for "illusion" too, because Colin has never actually been harmed by whatever came out of his closet. If an actual living, wizard's nightmare of a creature like that was in a small room with a helpless child - I suspect it would only happen once.
The point to ponder is, I'm guessing, how and why did the smaller creature generate the illusion?
Also, if the link between Quentyn's lux-charged sword and himself was never fully tested before, it should be by now. I hope somebody back at the college is watching it closely.
Leaning toward the 'real' side...

I'd vote for it being real. Although the creature appears to have a nice 'lux charge' to it, with the glowing eyes and all, that might not mean it is an illusion.
-First, it dug through the floor in the closet. (Real enough to me!)
-Second, the monsterous jaws of that 'thing' are probably why the brownies haven't been seen for the past few days, they've either become a meal or have fled from the area.
-Third, although it appears altered from when it was digging through the floor to the 'surprise!', it might actually be biologically correct if you close the jaw and tilt down the appendage that the eyes are sitting on (which it would probably have to do anyways since it was digging a tunnel).
-Fourth, these creatures may be very flexible, allowing them to squeeze into tiny spaces, like a tunnel perhaps.
-Fifth, if the above case is true, they may be using the sewers to move about, which is also why the sewage pumps have been going out (explained next).
-Sixth, if this creature carries a lux charge it is also possible that they can feed off lux energy, which may stand as a reason to why the brown-outs happen, and the sewage pumps go out, they eat the lux lines... which would also explain why it has now decided to pay Colin a night-time visit, the 'energy' that came off of him went into the floor (acting like bait in shark-infested waters).
O'course, these are just my little theories, it is equally possible that this thing is a creation from the night terrors that the lux has solidified, from the earth when it went into the floor, and is now doing what it was made to do. (Scare the holy ***** outa everyone!)

Welcome Teral.
How long have you been reading?
I note that this is your first post.
How do you find that this comic compares with Ralph's other work?

Thank you for the welcome DracoDei. I've actually been reading this comic on-and-off for about two years now. As for comparing Ralph's works, I'd say that they are all equally entertaining, but I prefer this one, since it contains a solid storyline, good characters, and a varying artistic style from character to character. Now, while this may only be my firs... erm... second post, I've been following the discussions a few days now and am glad to have found a friendly group on the web. I'm not a die-hard forum poster, so don't be surprised if I seem to disappear from time to time. But, thank you again for the welcome.
