So is this something that wants to take the side of the rats (perhaps to ruin the father), or does the boy have repressed guilt for the 'cute little rodents'?

Just what I was thinking...

The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents

Strangely, I was having visions of intelligent lux-weilding, and lux-mutated, rats causing the boy's night terrors.

But then I *am* a fan of Terry Pratchett. Does the alchemy building have a rubbish heap?

Good thought, except...

The rats in the discworld books are generally too smart to draw attention to themselves that way.
(The exception being that 'Maurice' something book)

In the most recent strip, Quentyn has the hypothesis that someone is intentionally using lux to cause Colin have the night terrors.

That's very strange because a few people at my church believe that such a thing is technically possible, except that they say it's caused by "asteral spirits" instead of lux. They even have special prayers to ward them off. (Our church is pretty charismatic for a Methodist church.) I'm not saying that these people are wrong, but I think that general praying (which includes asking for protection from whatever) is good enough.

I hope no one finds this post too weird.

Yuoofox: Nah, not sure I agree, and don't think that there are that many magicians (you will note I did NOT use quotes, I mean it literally, although I DON'T beleive in "magic" as such) in the modern world.

Colin: Hmmm... we may have ourselves an apprentice here in a few years... I know it is a very practical weapon, but that combined with his bravery can't help but make me think of a certain shepard-king with a propensity for (at least as I imagine it) finding big hulking Philistines(sp?) and telling them "You have set your self against the most high ((Insert SCARY grin here something like this mouth )) :) with these eyes :x ))... BIG mistake" ((Insert lots of metallic crashing sounds followed by the soft but significant woosh of arterial blood spray)).

[...unWARP!!!]

Good evening.

I'd say it's very possible for someone to use lux to impose a night terror on someone, which appears to be the case here.

Don't be shy, Yuoofox. I've read testimonies of people trying to kill Christians using astral projection. Only problem is, once the attackers enter the spirit realm, they find out that the Christians aren't exactly defenseless.

My friend.....

Given the nature and subject matter of this entire forum, as well as what you've read......what do you think most of us, well, ME at least, would call "weird"?

I think your particular church congregation is very understanding and much more open minded than some.

This is a GOOD thing!

Humph......you ever watch David Copperfield? I've seen his acts live and so help me, he's the ONE person that has actually made me truely believe in magic.

I know how a lot of his illusions are done. Although they're variations on established illusions, some of his "enhancments" and "refinements" just leave me absolutely baffled.

Yeah.....I DO believe in magic....and David Copperfield is the reason.

There is very little in this world that is completely impossible. Any student of science will tell you that this is true of the natural world, but I also think this to be true of the spiritual world. Ever so often, when I'm reading the Bible, I have to stop and say, "Dude...that's just plain weird!"

However, I think a problem arises when people try to decide how these possibilities should affect their daily lives. Everyone agrees that there are a such thing as viruses and bacteria. But what do you do about it? Some people simply wash their hands before they eat, and they try carry some extra tissues during cold and flu season. Other people wash their hands every five minutes, and they use tissues when they touch doorknobs. Most Christians believe that there are supernatural forces actively at work in this world (both good and evil), but what do you do about it? Some people simply try to spend a little time with God each day, and they try to do what God wants them to do. When they pray, they might say something like this, "Dear God, it looks like Susan is having a bad day today. Please comfort her. Please give her peace because I know You're the God of Peace." Other people think we should be actively "on the lookout" for evil things all the time. When they pray, they might say, "Dear God, I think that Susan over there is being afflicted with a Spirit of Depression and Worry. Thus, through the Power of the Blood of Jesus, I hearby command the Spirits of Depression and Worry to be gone from Susan! As it says in Word, may the Peace of Christ be with thee, Susan." Then they point an outstretched hand in Susan's direction, and though I myself don't feel anything unusual, by looking at their hand I get the impression the some sort of invisible energy is being exerted in Susan's direction, apparently the Spirit of God.

What do I think about this? Well, I don't know. Most of the time, I'm like the first person, the person who simply asks God for things. In a few specific circumstances, when I feel that something "unusual" is going on around me, I'll be like the second person: I'll quote scripture aloud and use some of that God-given Authority that the Bible talks about. However, I'm hesitant to do this all the time because, in my opinion, people who do this all the time are usually a bit paranoid about things. For instance, it isn't easy for them to sit back and enjoy a good movie because they're constantly thinking about the spiritual "bad influences" the movie might have on them. For example, I know people who say The Care Bear Movie has the devil's influence.

Feel free to disagree with me. We've all been in situations where you know that if you talk about what you're really interested in, the people there will laugh at you. I'm glad to have found a forum like this, with people who share similar ideas as myself. However, I'm not going to laugh at you or flame you if think differently than me.
