The question about the slides and how to scan them without expensive equipment...
If these are the kind of "Slides" I think they are, then, all you really have to do, is take 'em to a competent photo-developer, or, get ahold of the negatives, and develop the photos yourself-if you've got the gear.
Then, just scan the developed pictures in a you-friendly format.
Converting slides to prints is something I've seen done by members of the family who've (for one reason or another) lost both the negatives, and, the original prints.
It's a little $pendy, but, then again, aren't you still in college? Most community Colleges have "Photography" classes, equipped with both gear, and, eager students looking for practice in the more esoteric-and less widely used- stuff.
Just a thought from an ignorant barbarian...

Get them developed into prints...that's what I was afraid of. Figured somebody'd know some neat trick I could do without converting them from slides. Thanks for the info, though!
And, I'm graduated (for now), so I'm pretty sure I don't have access to any photography lab stuff anymore. And that's the pig's fault.
Do you know, by any chance, how much getting prints of slides costs?
