I've gotten pretty good at ignoring certain holidays myself. I don't think I've bothered with this silly one since I was in grade school and they forced us to make little construction paper hearts and all that crap. I'm now successfully lone again and am quite comfortable with it. Love is too much trouble. I'd rather just have the good and slightly more distant company of friends.

I think it's slightly more interesting that the holiday celebrates Duke Borgia of Italy, a man who used every despicable means possible to increase his own power, while his father held the position of Pope in Rome.

I'd rather have some sort of holiday commemorating the Duke of Valentine, or the St. Valentine's Day Massacre for that matter, than some insipid "holiday" invented and promulgated by greeting card and chocolate manufacturers purely for their own purposes.<P>I don't believe in happy endings, either.
