Like I said, somewhatdim, as in-"So smart he's dumb." Ceph, I'm not saying you're stupid, I'm saying you're... Dim. You don't think about what you're going to do or say, you just let it pour out without regards to the possible consequences.
"Intelligent, but unwise." is a nicer way to put it, be glad I'm not calling you Lieutenant, (which is a nice way of saying "educated idiot."), because your behaviour (at least, in the comic) would match this, in my experience...------------------

On the down side, America came up with Friends. And they utterly destroyed Red Dwarf when they tried to remake it. And their Pres is a bit of a twerp. And (my personal gripe) They get to pay less in dollars than i have to pay in pounds for computer hardware. "Dr. Who", made-for-teevee movie, they screwed with The Doctor's backstory by trying to make him half-human, the only good thing about it was the special effects, which, while pretty standard "Turner Television" level, were still better budgeted than the BBC-even if "The Master's Essence" was still fake as hell. The plot and story were weak, and it introduced an unnecessary Love interest subplot-which was better written than the plot, even though it was totally out of character for the Doctor.
I watched it, and it bore the heavy-hand-print of Ted Turner, even if it was originally shown on NBC. I think it was supposed to be a Pilot for an americanized version. It STANK!! To me, it seemed like they got the writers that did "Battlestar Galactica 1980" and gave them a copy of the Doctor Who Role-Playing game. In a word, it was SHIT.
Not even a Special Effects budget could save it...------------------

I thought it was Fox...ah well.
It was bloody awful! I only watched the thing out of morbid curiousity in the first place.
First, they replaced the master (who was charmingly Vincent-Prician) with a common thug type actor...that they probably pulled out of their stockroom (I swear they keep them in crates!)
Secondly...the Doctor wasn't too bad...at least he had a British accent!!! But he seemed like just a re-hash of Tom Baker. (probably exactly that, since he's the only Doctor the Americans ever liked...I'm talking the loud whiny demographic here.)
Thirdly...THEY "KILLED" SILVESTER MCCOY!!! THOSE BASTARDS!
Fourthly...The Doctor is not supposed to have a love interest, with a human no less!!! That's like pedophelia, or beastiality to a time lord!
Fifthly...High speed car chases through downtown L.A. with lots of explosions just doesn't belong in Doctor Who!!!
Sixthly...the whole thing was too dark, ie they were going by the X-Files school of cinemaphotography. Okay, so I'm a purist. Dr. Who just doesn't look right unless its set in a brightly lit sound stage, or the British countryside on a bright day.
Seventhly...cool cg effects just don't work! Okay, so this is me being a purist again...but I like the styrofoam and bubble wrap! It's a part of the show's charm!
Eighthly...what a bloody awful plot! Yeorb! (yeorb is the sound my cat makes just before he pukes up a hairball)*pant pant* Phew! Ok, I think I'm done ranting now.

Well Put. And I was wrong-it wasFox Television, I was confused because it followed the other networks' tendency to think of L.A. as the centre of the damned universe...
They should have had a Canadian outfit do it, the budget would've been smaller, but there would have at least been decent writing, rather than a collection of half-assed fills packed around a weak skeleton.
The original series had strong writing, direction, and, acting-this made the cheezy special effects not matter at all.
I do have to disagree on one point, though, Sarah- it wasn't X-Files style cinematography and layout, it was Miami Vice style, with hints of Terminator ("what do we do here?" hack asks, "I dunno, throw in a car chase, it works in every other show we've done!" the other hack replies...)I'm convinced that Fox can't do anything involving high-grade sci-fi for any length of time. (Example: Space:Above and Beyond lasted a season, and didn't have time to get stupid, while Dark Angel started sucking after the first season ended, and, The X-Files has been wildly inconsistent since they made the movie. Thank god Andromeda is on syndication, it's been getting better and better...) If someone were to make Ceph:Project Squidship as a series, I would hope they'd get the outfit that does Lexx, otherwise... Ick, they'd make it pathetic.------------------

I'm developing much respect for Majel Barret (don't know if I spelled that right) as a producer.As for the people who do Lexx making a tv version of Ceph, you're preaching to the choir!
