The Return of the Self-Critiquing Thread

Today's strip is most notable for Mannlicher's ridiculously long monkey-arm, plus for one of my better attempts at rendering an attractive woman.

The other character in the strip is a Tucker Cox, a minor character who popped up for the first time, looking rather different, in this strip.

A new look for Ultra and my best attempt yet at rendering Cydonia as jailbait. Plus a decent punchline marred only by the fact that it comes from off-panel.

Quite happy with this one.

I think it's quite an improvement on her.

I think just about anything would have been an improvement on the most embarassingly poorly-drawn second-string character in the comic. Her status is about to be upgraded though (hint-hint..see tomorrow's comic which I am about to color and upload).

I really need to start drawing backgrounds.

Problem with backgrounds is they can detract from the focus. In that last one, it isn't a major issue as your just watching the conversation.

This strip will probably only make sense to long-time readers.

I keep playing around with hand-lettering, and wind up crawling back to Blambot.com every time. One of my comicking strengths (I like to think) is my dialogue, and it simply isn't as effective if it's difficult to read. So, it's the "Zud Juice" font from Blambot from now on.

I never thought Spoony and Fish-hands would end up as continuing characters when I introduced them way back in the endless "Mannlicher's Brain" storyline. I just enjoy drawing them, and I love the fact that these two absurd characters have come to respresent two sides of Mannlicher's constantly at-conflict personality.

It's nice to see the tribute characters living on.
