appologies to Jim for referencing another comic here, but Wed.'s PvP makes an interesting point about the upcoming Star Wars
I had just about decided not to see this movie when I found out one of the clone bands was going to make an appearance
I certainly wouldn't have made them jedi knights, but they do get blown up by battle droids...........any thoughts?

Y'know, when I read the subject of this topic I thought it would be a debate on whether Jim was insane or brilliant.
I smacked that link with the intentions of being all name-droppy and commenting on how I'd met Jim over the holidays and can give an informed opinion on how he seems to be a little of both...
But now that's not to be. Now we're just talking about how much we want N'sync to die, die, die, die, die.
Er... where was I?
Oh yes... here's hoping the special effects will be brilliant and convincing. I want to see them split open like a Ton-ton, ready for Luke-warmin'.
Is that wrong?
------------------

ROOK! Hello, I was with Jim at Dargie's.
Make no mistake people, Jim is right 'round the bender. Mad as a March hare. He's certifiable and I know.
Anyone that would try to stick tracking devices to evil old cornflake while jumping on roofs and dodging dangerous roof kittens (see an earlier post for those lost) is quite mad I tell you.

I assumed the thread would be about my insanity, too. Heh.
As far as Star Wars goes...
I enjoy 'A New Hope' and 'Empire Strikes Back'. Everything else is pretty much crap as far as I'm concerned. Whatever Lucas does with this franchise now really doesn't matter to me. Ewoks, Jawas, Jar Jar, N'Sync, I just don't care anymore.
I'm happy to state that I don't own ANY of the movies on VHS or DVD. All these damn editions of the home video... bleh.
Adding N'Sync as background extras to the movie won't make it any better or worse as a movie. I mean, it's already titled 'Attack of the Clones' for crying out loud. Without compelling characters or an interesting story, Episode 2 will be as shitty as 1.
How much tension can you create when you already know that Obi-Wan and Anakin CAN'T die! They show up in 4,5 and 6. It kills any sense of suspense. In the trailer, it shows Obi-Wan captured... who cares! We know he gets out okay in the end.
Scott Kurtz is great at tapping into geek culture and commenting on it. PVP kicks ass.
------------------

yo. can we say 'lost?' to be honest i didn't even know the next star wars movie was ready to debut. guess it's pretty obvious i don't own a TV. o well...
as for the insane vs brilliant question, i've always heard it said that genius is one step away from madness. so...er.....keep it up, Z-man. and let us know when you need a doctor...or one of those cool jackets that buckle up the back...
------------------

I dunno Jim. I don't think there was any real doubt the main characters in the original trilogy were in any danger either. So that point is moot anyway.
This summer I sat down and watched Episode One with ten of my little cousins, the oldest was age twelve. Boy, were they entertained. I've rarely seen such a captive audience. They loved it. Even Jar Jar. I was baffled.
Then I got to thinking about the original trilogy. My parents were about my age now when they saw the first films and they enjoyed them well enough but never saw fit to obsess about them. But I was the same age as my cousins when I finally saw the trilogy. And I loved it. I thought they were the best movies EVER. But they're not. Not even close.
The special effects were great for their time. I'll give up that one. But the story is nothing but a great hack job; just look at Lord of the Rings and it's derivative copycats. Star Wars took from that mold too. It's a mish-mash of fantasy storytelling and old B-movie fun.
1 part Tolkien
3 parts Flash Gordon
4 parts ILM
Half Bake and Serve. Makes 3 Episodes.
To double recepie add 4 more parts ILM and 2 parts Dinotopia.
What everyone seems so upset about is that good ol' Georgie-boy has hit his target audience bang on, and we're not it. I can't be mad about that. I wouldn't be mad if I found Madeline or The Grinch to be too juvenile for me. That doesn't mean I couldn't enjoy them for what they are or apprieciate the fact that Hollywood likes to bring home a paycheque and feed it's family too.
Target Audience: Ready, Aim, Fire.
I am, however, willing to discuss the merits of creating a successful film that has high quality and broad appeal (Toy Story 2 and Iron Giant readilly come to mind) as opposed to laser guided movie fodder (like Spice World or...well, Spice World. I'm sure there's more but I've apperently blocked it all out - yay brain).
Crunch.
G.
