A Question About Jack

Hm.

So. Jack's a Mage-Slayer. He can absorb the mana of magical effects cast at him and redirect it later, even if he's not aware of this fact just yet.

What about all that time he was bound in the Soul Chains? Wasn't he absorbing the mana or anything from that..? Or maybe he was, and just not enough that it could really be noticed..

Long explanation follows; maybe someday this will actually make it into the comic:

The Soul Chains are a weird situation. Normally they would have had no effect on him. However, the Beach Cultists accidentally used his true name while enacting the ritual, thus allowing the chains to bind themselves to him (which is one of the few weaknesses of a Mage-Slayer, and why the Army of Man was willing to create a couple). Unfortunately for Sirrus, his connection to the chains was partially broken by Jack's nullification field, which is why he ended up in a beer bottle. He still had a link to Jack, but it was nowhere near the full possession that it was supposed to be. As a side note, it was this link that Douglas used to bind Thera to Jack. After Sirrus was absorbed into the undead body of the original sacrafice, her bond to him also disappeared.

Ahh... I'd wondered about that.

Thanks-- keep up the good work, this is one of the best web-comics I've seen out there, even if it doesn't update as often as my greedy self would like.

It does seem that Jack's been a busy boy while off-camera. Will we ever get to discover what he's been up to, I wonder?
