These are always fun. Here's my argument:<P>The universe is infinite. Discuss.<P>...Please.<P>------------------

The universe may not be infinite, but I'm one of those chaps that does believe it's ever-expanding. Which means that there is no real "outside the universe" since it's always going outward. Unless you want to discuss the concept of nothingness, which is an entirely different subject.<P>And no, I don't think I said I believe time is infinite... or at least I shouldn't have. To believe in forever means I must believe in forever both ways--past and future. Everything, to me, must have a beginning, even the universe and all must have been sparked by something. The big big had some catalyst, which was caused by something, etc. Without a god or Mystic Magic Special Force to rely on, I can only say "Dunno" as to the true beginning of it all.<P>But we've gone off course again, haven't we?<P>Yes, I do suppose space itself is infinite. I don't think that if you go out far enough in space you'll hit a wall. Maybe it's one of those nifty things where if you go long enough, you'll arrive back at where you started?

And the only reason numbers are infinite are because they're a product of man's imagination, and we SAY they're infinite.

yes, backup characters do tend to fit into main character's pockets in most squaresoft games, or most rpgs for that matter. although i think the the whole buying and equipping scene was closer to chrono trigger than another game...... i wish i had a portable cabin

Well, how will you know if you've really gone back to where you've started, or just come to a place that looks exactly LIKE where you've started? It's odd to think of it this way, but it can't be proven wrong:<P>Think of something happening. The weirdest thing. Think of the kind of setting, the sounds you hear, and the goings on. Think of it happening with either humans or the strangest alien beings you can think of. What you're thinking of is happening right now somewhere. It might be almost infinitely far away, but that's something to think about if you believe space is infinite...<P>And it's okay to go a bit off topic. When you talk about time, you mention the start of the universe (big bang, I guess). Do you mean to say that time started then?<P>------------------

I can't believe in anything being truly infinite. Mind-bogglingly big, certainly, or always expanding, but not really going on forever.

I love the way Bouncy Fish makes no sense.<P>But Bob, if the universe is finite, what's outside it? If it loops, then is there anything outside this loop?<P>Numbers go on forever, and if you look at it that way, it would take an infinite amount of time to count them. You say you think time is infinite, right? [My mind is turned off since it's early now, but] I'd think that the same thing would go for space.<P>And maybe I should have rephrased the statement of "SPACE is infinite..." would that make a difference?<P>------------------

I could go so far in the universe that I'd meet a world that looks exactly like mine with all the same surroundings and the like? Never happen. Never ever ever ever. And even if it did (WHICH IT NEVER CAN OR WILL), they wouldn't remember me as I was.<P>And "time", like numbers, is just an invention of man used to measure things. That's all it is.
