I was just thinking about how much I like the newsbox. Thanks, Gene for not pressuring on us on where to click. Then again no one ever tells me where I should click! <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/biggrin ... >BTW-who's going to win the chompetition? I thought it was kinda funny, I had never really seen anything like that, well not the "click here" thing, but that part where it says anywhere <IMG SRC="http://www.plauder-smilies.de/BUNNY.gif"> <p>[This message has been edited by JennBunny (edited 11-18-2001).]

*chuckle* Bob O'Link clicks on everything,
anyway. He's rather hyperactive. Once he gets
online, it's almost impossible to pry him
away from the computer. ^_^<P>

I'm glad folks are tickled by the newsbox!
Oddly enough, it seems those who like it the

Well, right now Sunblaze is in the lead...
if she keeps that lead through round 2, then
she'll win it - but Ferris seems to be getting
more attention. He doesn't seem to mind that

Sorta one of those things that makes sense
to me, really. If they want the user to click
on it, why specify one little part of it? Why
not just say "Click!" if anywhere on the
image will do the job? <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/smile.gif"><P>

It's a sneaky psychological trick. If you told people to "click in the box" they'd click outside of the box just to show they didn't have to do what you told them, but if you tell them to click "here" in the box, they'll click <I>elsewhere</I> in the box, and be trapped in a one-way trip to advertisingland! Ha ha ha ha!<P>Uhm.. Yeah. That's it.<P>

And now for a little <I>Tyger Tails</I> fun . . .<P>
------
Reese Bertram sat in front of the computer. He considered it a miracle that no one had cracked a joke about his trying to work one. The one he used at home worked fine, but that one was only set up to send and recieve E-mail, the only things he knew how to do without crashing.<P>"Stupid pop-up ads," Reese muttered to himself, and he clicked on the X at the upper right corner of one of them.<P>The next thing he knew, he saw another ad, but before he clicked it off of the screen, he read it.<P>"'Click here', eh? Well, what if I click elsewhere?" Reese clicked on an area of the ad that was only blank space . . . and was greeted, not by triple X rated tigress babes with big breasts, but by a simple message.<P>THANK YOU FOR DOWNLOADING THE DAMEON VIRUS...YOUR COMPUTER IS NOW A PAPERWEIGHT.<P>The computer then shut down.<P>Reese sat there for a moment, too stunned to do anything. Then he turned in his chair, and called into the Den, "TG? I think I did something wrong . . ."<P>
------
Yikes, I guess it really <I>does</I> mean "Click here."!<P>------------------

By which I mean, I don't think the various wanna-be internet marketing people out there haven't quite got their ducks in a row on that point just yet...
It seems to me, they don't care how you feel about the product they're selling, all they care about is getting you to look at the ad.<P>Your site's ad box is kind of unusual in that it is actually entertaining instead of irritating, trust YOU to do things a little bit differently.<P>

Hey, don't ask me! <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/smile.gif"> I've yet to figure out
how in the world spam advertisers' minds work.
There is PLENTY of good statistical data
around about buyers online that makes spam
not only unnecessary but a waste of time.

*shrug* And ramming an unwelcome ad in the
face of a person who only wants their e-mail
only results in a practically guaranteed "No
Sale". I dunno, perhaps they really believe
that their stuff is so indispensable that the
very sight of a spam ad is enough to send a
prospective customer into a buying frenzy?

Maybe I should be in advertising? <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/smile.gif">

You're probably old enough (that's meant as a
compliment ^_^) to remember back in the days
of TV advertising when the "hard sell" of
Madison Avenue gave way to the more elegant,
clever and (occasionally) even erudite brand
of ads. Smart and funny people, often comedians
like Nichols & May, Stiller & Meara and, of
course, Stan Freberg... the commercials they
were part of aimed for the funny bone and the
head bone at the same time. Is Internet
advertising ripe for the same type of change?<P>

Perhaps that will be the next wave of Internet
advertising, now that more companies are
seeking to use it in that manner.
