Reading all the posts (wow, this board is active lately) and from listening to stuff on the radio, a quote from a recent song came to mind.
The "song" itself is ever bit as hard to listen to as mob psychology is to watch. Neither are for the faint of stomach. It's not something I could recommend to anyone unless they wanted to deliberately get depressed. But it rings absolutely true to Gene's story.
(And I cleaned it up a bit. This is a family board, after all. *Grin*)
"This state is elevating,
as the hurt turns into hating.
Anticipating
all the $*#@ed up
feelings again.
The hurt inside is fading
This #($%'s gone way too far!
All this time I've been waiting
Oh I can not grieve anymore.
For what's inside awaking.
I'm not, I'm not a whore
You've taken everything and oh I can not give anymore.
I'm here to stay..."
-- Korn, "Here to Stay"
(as I'm sure these cretins are thinking they are)

the same way I do. Yes, the things that keep
people doing the things they do seem to
repeat themselves endlessly. In my story,
there's a deeper reason for what's going on -I hope to do it justice in the telling.
