The work took time, and cost him a great deal of power. He knew he'd pay for it that night, but David just never was the kind of fur to just left others suffer, not if he could stop it...And after all, he thought to himself, I've been pretty lucky finding...food...recently. At least none of those rats or birds started talking back... Chuckling softly to himself, he stood up, looking around. Ah, now that the danger was past, now the crowd was beginning to head this way. Chrr-ing softly to himself, David folded his robe around himself, closing his eyes and exercising just a little more power to keep from being noticed by the crowds, making his way to the park...
As he turned back to watch, he chided himself for his foolishness. Yet again, he'd allowed his compassion to force his paw, and even still, had waited until /after/ the fact to do so, after the moment he might actally have been able to stop the mindless hurting...
Bah,, the old familliar whisper came to him, What do you care about them? They're fools, the whole lot. Nothing more than cattle, sheep, each one only following the leader blindly. Why do you still care about them, about cattle like them?
Even now, his answer still seemed trite to his own ears, and yet, it was the only one he had... "...Because," he whispered to his own mind, "...because, whatever they may have done...I have done worse. I'll help them when I can, aid them when I'm able..." He took one last look at the crowd, closed his eyes, and turned away. The wind quickly caught the last of his whispered words to himself... "...I owe them at least...that much..."

"Oh man, I'm starving! What could be taking them this long?" Char complained, pacing near the door.
The doorbell rang. Char practically leapt at the door. "It's about time! Don't be expecting any tip from us..."
"Aw don't worry, it's all paid for anyways."
Char soon found her arms full with a bag of Chinese food, her mouth began watering from the smell. "Huh? Hey is this one of those late delivery free meal deals?"
"Nope. Oh, and here's a letter here for Mokanna." the delivery girl stuck out a paw to hand an envelope to Mokanna and she felt something solid inside.
"Enjoy!" The delivery girl called before the door was closed behind her.
Mokanna and Char alternated looking at the envelope and food, not sure of which to take care of first. Finally the two of them began eating the Chinese food while Mokanna opened her letter.

Char looked over Mokona's shoulder as she read, calling out orders and tossing the food containers to the other girls in the process. Once everyone was served, they all joined the feline in reading the notice.
"Wow, you've got fans now!"
"Can it, OBAASAN."
"Don't call me that! Or I'll start calling you Yahiko-chan again!"
Mokona grumbled in annoyance, but there wasn't much she could say in response to that threat. Taking out the earring, she looked it over. It was quite pretty, well made, but a little too big for her. Lena solved that problem quickly, grabbing one of her old neckchains and stringing the ring on it.
"Hah! Never doubt my inginuity!"
"Whatever you say, oh bad-tempered one," muttered Tameken in response. Finally they all settled down to eat, after marvelling over Mokona's new ring for a few minutes.
"I wonder why total strangers would want to pay for that door?"
"Who cares? At least we don't have to do it. I can barely afford class supplies as it is."
"Point."
They continued eating in silence for a few moments, before Jiko dug out her CD player from the pile of junk near her door. Kristen slid in her "Yellow Submarine" soundtrack, and they all sat back against the walls to enjoy their meals to the sounds of the Beatles.
Char: "We still on for the Slayers marathon tonight?"
Tamaken: "Can't."
Lena: "Why not?"
Tamaken: "Those bloody idiots from the pride groups are holding a rally."
Jiko: "Dammiiiiit, that's so unfair!! We have to go through hellish red tape just to watch some anime, and they can get space for their inane shouting and screaming about the evils of humans in minutes!"
Mokona: "Since when is this school fair? They try to kill us with bricks, we have to pay for the property damage. They harrass us in class, we get the reprimands from the teachers. They beat the hell out of us in the halls, we get OSS for 'starting fights'."
Kristen: "I've got some new hexes I'd LOVE to try on those jerks."
Lena: "Man, don't we wish you could."
Kristen: "Yeah, sucks they decided to outlaw any ritualistic practices."
Char: "Except for the rallies, damn them."
Nothing more was said as the meal continued. All ate in silence as the lyrics and music of "Baby, You're A Rich Man" came floating out of Jiko's stereo. But they weren't as hungry as they had been before, the food just didn't seem to taste as good as it usually did.

Interesting tidbit of the day: I LIVE on Vancouver Island. How'd Gene know to make the comparison? Anyone wanna come viiisiiiit meeeeee?

(Oh, btw. Furriston is more like Vancouver. The island itself has a few cities and some smaller towns, but, to the best of my knowledge, no nomadic furries. In fact, there aren't that many furries on the island at all. According to the IFPL, there's maybe about twenty furries in the area, including Vancouver in the radius.)

It isn't quite their *only* city, but it isThat would work for Furriston. As Gene once posted, Furriston is the major city on his Earth's Vancouver Island (probably only city).

Yeah, I remember reading that some time. Only, I didn't know what Vancouver was like. What do the nomads do? Are they farmers, hunters, etc?
Mel
very defintely the major urban center on their
island. As for the nomadic and semi-nomadic
tribes and other groups, they have a variety
of lifestyles, among them farming, mining,
hydroponics (several forms of aquatic flora
are grown and cultivated for both food and
medicines) and contact with Furriston and the
other metropolitan areas for them is mostly
on a seasonal basis, such as for trading or
after a harvest.

No, I'm actually in Nanaimo, the namesake of the Nanaimo Bar (which did NOT originate in Nanaimo, it was a part of care packages sent to coal miners IN Nanaimo from eastern Canada and Britain). However, I've been hiking several times in Strathcona and area. (Actually, Saturday, I was skiing on Mt. Washington, which is snuggled right next to the park.)On 2002-03-12 17:16, genecatlow wrote:
Elix is there? Whoa! Are you near Strathcona Provincial Park? That's east of where Furriston is on their world, with Union Bay to the north.
Hmm...time to get out some maps and try and collaborate Furriston geography to near where I live!

(Gene, this has made my day.)

Speaking of Strathcona Park, last time I was there I took some photographs. Here's one of my favorites...I think this is Lupin Falls.

Sorry, guys, but this RP was going so well, I feel I just HAVE to keep it running. Besides, I'm compiling it into a really long story to put on Fanfiction.net (and yes, you all get credit, I'm not that much of a glory hog! ^^)
Mokona was in a really good mood. Most of the anti-human idiots in her classes had been ousted for being involved in the church incident, she'd gotten to see Charlie and calm him down somewhat, the new doors were in place in the dormitory, and she'd gotten a new CD player for her birthday. She trotted cheerfully down the street to the wonderful little coffee shop she and the other TS Inc. Girls had discovered, singing along loudly to her Weiss CD.
Donna hana sae itsuka wa kare yuku
Donna yume sae itsuka wa kie yuku
Donna ai sae itsuka wa same yuku
Donna hoshi sae itsuka wa tae yuku
Naze hito wa motomete shukumei no kinu o matoru
Naze hito wa itsurou unmei no fuchi de
Kokoro ni kakushite iru mono
Mitsukete kami wa kizutsukeru
Daiji ni shimatte iru mono
Kowashite ore no waratte iru
(OOC: Sorry, guys, lost the translation to this one, so you'll have to put up with romaji until I can find it)
IC: The day couldn't get any better or more beautiful. The sun was shining, she thought the birds were singing, but she couldn't hear very well over Koyasu-sama's voice and the electric guitars blasting in her lapine ears, and the dogwood trees she and the others had put behind the school were in full gorgeous bloom. Suddenly remembering she was late to meet Tamaken at the coffee shop, she took the shortcut through the park. Well, she also took the shortcut to admire more of the scenery.
If only she had payed attention to where she was going.
"Wha-GYAA!!" She yelped as she tripped over something or someone, sending her CD player flying. By sheer luck and a good rabbit jump, she managed to save it from smashing to pieces on the ground. With her free hand, she snagged her bag, keeping more drawings from being ruined by being dumped in the fountain.
"Aa, so sorry, shoulda watched where I was going, didn't mean t-YOU!!!" She halted in mid-apology, staring in shock at a familiar short bear with a familiar patch on his shoulder.
OOC: Well, do I still got it, or has my writing turned to mush?
