Then eventually, with all those cameos, your comic turns into a John Landis movie.

I tell my friends the fact that they aren't in my comic should be taken as a compliment.

The only one that comes to mind is that someone once thought that naming a fast food place Satan Burger was meant as an attack on the fast food industry, when I really just thought it would make a good name for a fast food place in Hell.

Also, (though it's only ever come up once), I worry that most people will pronounce Kame's name wrong.

I thought it would be fun to put someone I know in my comic as a cameo, and suddenly she's suggesting psychic powers and decides her character needs to be able to fly. And have perfect hair. And now she's writing a backstory! I kept telling her, "It's a cameo. You get one panel. One panel, you say two lines, you do not fly to the rescue. And with my drawing skill it won't even look like you."

"A cameo? Oh, I thought you said you wanted to have a camel in my comic! Well, it's too late now, she's a huge hit with the fans, no stopping this gravy train."

Or, for a meaner tone,

"Hey! That's a great idea! Why don't you make that comic, and I'll keep on doing this one according to my original plan?"

You have to be careful with using friends like that in your comic. Even if you're best friends with them now, what will happen if you ever have a falling out in the future? You wouldn't want them to come back and make trouble for you because they had a cameo. That's what happened to me. In my "Girl's Night Out" serial from a few years ago, I have a few of my friends in it but unfortunately, in the time since, I had a falling out with one of them. If I ever want to reprint it anywhere, I'm going to have to redo some panels he appears in and "digitally erase" him out of the story. Now, I'd just as soon not use friends in any of my cartoons.

I wouldn't worry- the way I draw it would be considered "Parody" and fair use.

Haha, that reminds me of an artist who had to erase from her comic her ex boyfriend together with three kids that she drew them.

At least in my case, I don't think I have to redraw the entire comic, just the panel he appears in - and to that end, I think he only appears in two or three panels. I can do the old cut-and-paste job or even alter his appearance altogether, but it's still a pain in the ass.

Unless he has a curly mustache, it seems like a pretty easy fix. That or pasting a rage face over his.

Pixelate it and say the character's in witness protection?

Replace them with an image of President Johnson, preferably in one of the poses from this photo series: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_29_shKT4Elw/T ... ohnson.jpg

Encroaching on personal space is a powerful influence technique. He looks either affectionate or authoritive, or both. You be the judge.

I had a roommate who couldn't stop smiling. This made it very hard to use him in my photo comic, so I threatened to put a bag over his head. His performance improved drastically after that, mainly because I DID in fact put a bag over his head.

If we ever got famous on accident, we were gonna have him sell autographed paper bags at cons. Sketches would be done with a Polaroid camera.
