so I didn't actually talk about 20th century boys part 3. But its the best of the trilogy, and the going theme is the power of music. The main character's song was played on the radio giving hope to people, as the world was getting ready to be destroyed and all seemed hopeless. And its rare films effect me so surely. But it reminded me what music is, and why its so important. It can be more than just a thing you do.

Also its rare that a part three is the best of them all. course you got to watch parts one and two, to really get the hit of part three. The story goes between 1969 to 2017, and tells the story of childhood friends who made this book of how the world would be destroyed when they were kids. Book involved gigant robots, doomsday machines, UFOs and the like. one of the friends decides to take the book and make all the things come to pass. Course none of the other childhood friends are sure which one "Friend" is, as he's masked.

The main character is this regular Joe called Kenji, whom had to give up his band that was about to make it big, to take care of his neice and run his family's convience store, and he's always dreamed of being a famous musician. So he tries to save the world, but fails at stopping his friend, and the story goes from there.. with him named the world's greatest terrorist and all that. Part two is actually about his niece and people surrounding Kenji. But part 3 shows off his music, and the hope his song gives to the people of the world.

Good stuff and hight recommended in either film or manga versions. Its written by Naoki Urasawa, the guy who did Monster.

I've never seen it, but a friend of mine raved about it ad nauseum until I grew to kind of hate it on principle. I found the Agony Booth recap of it very amusing, though.

Oh dear.
I remember seeing this documentary a few years ago and here it is on Youtube. It's full of genuine, undescribable, real life weirdness. It's fascinating, and not really in a good way. Might even be shocking to some.

Not only did I laugh heartily, but it also confirmed my suspicions that I likely would not enjoy the actual movie. It mentioned a whole mess of things that annoy me about pretentious indie movies and love stories in general, so I think I'm safe to steer clear.

I saw Clash of the Titans finally. Not nearly as bad as I expected, given the reviews. True, there were plot holes you could drive a kraken through, but it was still a fun romp. And I totally want a giant riding scorpion now. I bet they get great mph (miles per human).

There's been a lot of backlash against the fantasy-adventure movies coming out lately. Prince of Persia, Clash of the Titans, etc. Really...these movies don't pretend to be anything but fun fluff. It's kind of nice to see movies in this vein finally being made again. They remind me of the old Sinbad movies...no, not the comedian. The other one. But of these recent movies, Prince of Persia was definitely the best, which pleases me as the game was fantastic.

Also saw The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnasus finally. It's...going to take a while to process. Liked it soooo much more than Tidelands, but I'm still trying to piece some of what went on together. Gilliam has a brilliant imagination, but his editing can be a little wonky.

Overly long reviews are pretty much what the Agony Booth is know for. They're great for killing time, though.

I rewatched Akira and Paprika recently. Now I'm dating a dyslexic woman, I can't watch subs with her, its gotta be dubs, and I never realized how big the difference was, the friggin fankids are right. Terrible voice acting is just... yaugh.
The movies themselves however are sheer amazing, Paprika in particular really feeds off the whole dream-world thing in a way that's just really cool and appealing.

I also watched Reservoir Dogs again. Am I the only one who doesn't think Tarantino is that great? Although I gotta say the startling low-budget-ness gave me as a budding professional some real hope for my own future.

I remember seeing a version of Akira where Kaneda was voiced by Jonny Young Bosch. SO weird to hear vash's voice say "He's MY friend! If anyone's gonna kill him, it's going to be me!"

Akira has the worst dubs.

Tarantino is seriously great.

I don't know if it's the same guy but Kaneda was voiced by Leonardo of the Ninja Turtles in the version I saw.

Tarantino made one really great movie, the rest is just pandering to his own fanboyishness which he should have grown out of long ago. Most of his films are all style and no content, and I kinda like content. On the other hand, he's the one responsible for dragging b-cinema ethics into mainstream and for today's saturation with shlock, for which I'd gladly kick his ass.

I'm amused by this trend of filming live action remakes of saturday morning cartoons and newspaper comics with gratituous help of CG. It's bound to make some future classics of bad cinema.

I would just like to say, to night is Old Boy and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance at one of the local theaters. Its going to be a good night.

Coraline was good. Kept having to rewind to catch various bits to double check what we just heard/seen.

A fitting end to one of my favorite series. I won't spoil but it was good enough to sate me, some tearful moments and a lot of really funny parts. Lots of loveable new characters and a couple references to Cool Hand Luke and such.

And the tortilla man. You'll... you'll have to see it. I can't do it justice with words.

finally made the time to watch Across 110th Street. Blaxplotation at its finest. it was a really good gritty 70's crime drama. plus the sound track is pure funk.
