Re: So anyone seen some good movie recently?

Russell Crowe is like 30 years too old for that role.
All are welcome to join the fun.

There is! Did you see the Emmy skit they did to announce it? It was adorable.Laemkral wrote:Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog. Okay, not really a movie, but I just bought it off iTunes. Heard there's a sequel in the works, very excited.
Iron Man 2 was good! Lots of great action, lots of Iron Man getting his butt kicked, all good stuff. The teaser after the credits was pretty weak though.MixedMyth wrote:I heard that that was surprisingly good. I have trouble imagining Russel Crowe as Robin....but I guess it worked.
Me, I really want to see Iron Man 2. But not as much as I want to see Prince of Persia!
Worth the 3 bucks to see it at the pub-theater?Black Sparrow wrote:I just saw Kickass.
It totally was.
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai in the 8th Dimension - Kinda strange... It's apparently a cult film tho I can't see anything particularly remarkable about it.... It's not even a bad film.
Annigoni: Portrait of an Artist
Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner
The Bad and the Beautiful
Bedazzled - I hope he thinks Cook/Moore version... cause the new one's awful
The Believer
Better Off Dead - It's a spectacularly disjointed movie. I mean I like it very much. It tries so hard to be intentionally awful and confused and unfunny and you gotta love it for that.
Beyond the Mat
Beyond the Valley of the Dolls - A classic.
Big Bad Love
Biggie & Tupac
The Brave One
Brotherhood of the Wolf - A very stylish and beautiful film; it has one of the best sex scenes ever. But I guess one's opinion depends of how willing he's to accept that they threw a crapload of disparate elements on canvas... it's a mess of genres that don't really belong together. Kind of what happens when French try to copy Americans.
Bubba Ho-Tep - Ah, everyone knows this film.
Cane Toads: An Unnatural History
Carnival of Souls
Chelsea Girls - Warhol? His films are strange. They're kind of an example of what it'd look like if film esthetics went into a completely different direction at the very beginning. I remember reading Tarkovsky's praise of Warhol's film where he was recording someone sleeping for hours.
Cherish
Cocksucker Blues
CQ - I think I watched this, Roman Copola if I'm not mistaking. A classic film made by director of musical videos, which means very elegant and beautiful, but not much content and structure to speak of.
Cyberman
Darby O'Gill and the Little People - Oh wait, this is a Disney film, right? I loved this when I was a kid.
The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys - Seen it. Interesting, nothing spectacular.
Delicatessen - Jean Jeunet's debut. I see it as a kind of precursor to "City of lost children", similar atmosphere and bizzareness, but very simple story. People love it cause it's more unapologetically brutal than "City..."
Dementia 13 - This is I think first Copola's movie, which he made by re-splicing and re-dubbing footage from Roger Corman's archives. It's quite an achievement, a testament to resourcefullness.
The Devil's Backbone
The Dish
Dr. Syn: Alias the Scarecrow
Dogtown and Z-Boys
Eating Raoul - I remember seeing this once. Nice, tidy little black comedy which excells on brutal ideas.
Eegah! The Name Written in Blood
Emma's Shadow
The Experiment - Oh man I got this DVD. On back burner for years.
A Face in the Crowd
The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T
Foreign Correspondent
Frailty
Fubar
Fun
Funny Games
Gangster Number One
Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai - A great movie, great Forest Whithacker performance. It's Jarmush making a gangster movie, and he's actually excellent at directing shoot-outs (although if I remember there was only one).
Ginger Snaps
The Great Rock 'N' Roll Swindle - Yeah, this is also a classic. Too bad Julian Temple didn't continue making great films.
Happy Texas
The Harder They Come
Hedwig & the Angry Inch - I hear voices from many sides telling me that I should watch this film. I think I haven't because I watches Shortbuss and wasn't very impressed.
Here Comes Mr. Jordan
High School Confidential - This one's on back burner too.
I Ann a Fugitive from a Chain Gang
Incubus
Island of Lost Souls
Jason & the Argonauts
The Kid Stays in the Picture
Killer Klowns from Outer Space - This is crap really. I'm not even sure what they tried to make. It's a comedy that's not funny and a horror that's not scary. I think they basically had one joke and tried to stretch it over hour and a half.
Kind Hearts and Coronets - Ah, Ealing studios. Everything they made was good.
The Krays
Lady in the Lake - At first I thought this was that spectacularly crappy Shamalan movie, but it appears it's actually some old noir.
The Luzhin Defence
M - This is a classic masterpiece that everyone should see.
Mad Monster Party - Oh, I love this. It's completely adorable.
Maelstrom
The Man Who Fell to Earth - Classic Roeg's experimental movie. He's not for everyone's taste, but at least noone's having sex with comatose woman in this movie.
Meet the Feebles - I regret ever watching this, really. If I could erase one memory, it would be of watching this film.
Mile Zero
The Minus Man
Monsoon Wedding - Wait, this is unknown? Well then that explains why Slumdog Superhero is considered a cultural milestone. In fact Mira Nair has been bringing Indian culture to wide audience for decades. Seriously, this is great and eye-opening.
Night Tide
Omega Man, The - Uh, nothing special. I was really bothered by all the changes made to the book, 'cause they're kinda stupid.
Peeping Tom - Oh yeah, this is great. At the time it was considered so controversial that it ended Michael Powel's career. I think that unlike most of thrillers from that period, it's very unsettling even today.
The Phantom of the Paradise
Pitch Black
The Pope of Greenwich Village
Porn Star: The Legend of Ron Jeremy - Ron Jeremy is funny.
The Princess and the Warrior - Yeah, Tom Tykwer is great and all his films so far have been great. This one was a follow-up to "Run Lola Run" and it confirmed that he was no one-hit-wonder.
Rat Pfink A Boo Boo
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians - I remember hearing somewhere about this.
Scarface: The Shame of the Nation - This isn't so unknown. If anything people know it as film that was eventually remade into De Palma's "Scarface". It's a sort of milestone in film violence.
The Seven Faces of Dr. Lao - I remember seeing this a long time ago. It's like those old 50ies sf films, only kinda weird.
Simone - Good idea but mostly unremarkable.
Stage Door
The Straight Story - Ah ha, David Lynch movie for those who don't like David Lynch. It's great, really.
Sugar Town
Suspiria
13 Conversations about One Thing
Tadpole
Targets
The Terror of Tiny Town
They Might Be Giants
To Be or Not To Be
The Toxic Avenger - This is also well known. Troma and stuff. Wasn't great, wasn't the worst either.
Treed Murray
Trees Lounge
Twist, The
Two Family House
The Virgin Suicides - It's not a great film, but I generally liked it, although it's very very sad and I felt bad afterwards. Lost in Translation is better.
waydowntown
White Zombie
Wild in the Streets
Zardoz - Isn't this, like, a popular movie with half-naked Sean Connery's image being a sorta internet meme?

Damn. Plane Nine must be pretty bad to net two spots on the list. Also one of the only movies on there that I've seen. The other being parts of Howard the Duck.McDuffies wrote:This one sounds interesting enough, if you're into that kind of thing. If only reading the plot makes you laugh, I guess it's worth seeing.
Strangely enough, if it was a japanese movie, I wouldn't even raise an eyebrow.

I saw only five movies from this list. I suppose MST3K fans saw plenty.
