I have sworn an oath upon all I hold holy that if any of the Marvel legacy is destroyed or corrupted by Disney, I will destroy their empire. Yes, I see the irony in all of that.

I also see the irony that I am a shareholder in Disney. I was a former shareholder of Marvel earlier this year and deeply regret selling my shares as they jumped in value (at the time of this posting) by 26%. Yes, I could have made some serious bookoo bucks.

Wait, that's awesome.

If they ruin my Deadpool, so fucking help me God I will END Disney.
I can see why they were so keen to acquire Marvel though. You know when you meet someone and you're like, shit, we're so similar we could be family?
Take Marvel. EVERY character has dead relatives. Disney was just all, awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

This could lead to some hilariously awful crossovers. Although they'll have a hard time beating the Punisher-Archie one.

This oughta be worth a laugh or two when they make a big-eyed Spiderman animated feature.

Just off the top of my head:

Captain America can show Goofy how you REALLY use a shield as an offensive weapon.
Wolverine makes an appearance, stabs something, even the villains are freaked out.
Mr. Fantastic is stumped by everything, but a 13 year old boy figures it all out.

Seriously, if they even consider treating Marvel characters like "Disney property" then I will do everything I can to remove the current boards of directors from office. I will ruin someone's life because they ruined Spider-Man. All I can hope for is that this is just a ploy by Disney to funnel more money to the top from a profitable side company that's nothing more than a cash cow to them. Leave Marvel intact and operating one its own and it'll be fine. Try to pair it with the Mouse, you'll destroy EVERYTHING.

Interesting note, how will this affect Universal Studios Florida having an entire Marvel Comic Land at Islands of Adventure?

They will flounder, lose money, tank a little. Then Disney can afford to buy Universal.

maybe, but I doubt it. Warner doesn't have quite the same connotations that Disney does. Good things came out of the DC -- Warner combination. Mmmm Batman animated series....

I find it fascinating that when people hear Disney is getting their hands on something, the automatic reaction seems to be that they're going to toonify everything, turning it into watered down pap in which no violence, nudity, sex, drug use, profanity, or any of those other nice things will ever, ever be allowed.

I always wonder if this is because people either forget or don't know that Disney owns companies like Miramax Films, the movie makin' people that brought us such gems as Kevin Smith's films Chasing Amy and Dogma and Quentin Tarantino's films Pulp Fiction and Resevoir Dogs.

Miramax WAS actually a very unique case in the disney structure. There has never been a division of Disney that had as much control over things as when the Weinsteins ran the show. Disney also has a track record of "colouring" things to protect thier image. Over at Island records I've heard horror stories of the mouse ears nudging people off the tracks. They fired the insane clown posse because of corprate image issues.

not that firing ICP is a bad thing. :D

The first thing Disney did was put the 90's X-Men Cartoon on DVD, so I approve of their leadership so far.

Except the money will be going straight to Disney's pockets, supporting Hannah Montana and The Jonases instead of going right to the makers of a cartoon we know and love. Thats my main issue with Disney buying fucking everything. When I buy a Marvel comic, its because I like the character. Its because I want to support artists that I respect and love. There is an actual glee in my 3 dollar comic purchase helping keep a company I love afloat. I can download any comic or movie I want off the net. I go out and actually PAY for my comics because I believe they are truly deserving of the money. Same goes for Pixar, I LOVE their movies. And I STILL do. The Disney purchase didn't destroy that. My issue is something else.

I DON'T want my money supporting the kind of company that forcefully runs animals off cliffs because the lemmings in their documentary weren't committing suicide.

I don't hate Disney because of sexual things in their movies, or because they use sweat shops, or because Walt was an antisemite. Hell I grew up on their movies, and things like The Lion King are cherished parts of my childhood. I just don't like them because, in general, I find the way they conduct business to be unethical in a degree that does not gel with me, and I want to be able to have the choice of saying "no, I will not support your company because I do not agree with the way it conducts business". As far as I'm concerned, all these takeovers are holding companies I genuinely respect hostage, and I'm FORCED to give Disney my money.
