Oooh character evolution!

Or, how have your characters changed, visually/personalitywise over time?

Looking around my room, I found the sketchpad where I made my first "official" character sketches for the kids in Loud Era. Hohoholy crap. So here, for your distraction, is a comparison of the group from 2007 (?) and more or less what will be around in season 2 (later this summer I guess.)

Generally everyone's eyes got bigger and jaws got smaller. And nobody has necks in the "before" pictures. Just a warning.

I initially had no idea what in the world to do with Aggie, she was just plain and quiet. Turned way the hell around, into a really angry tough sorta bitchy little thing.

Cal started out as this wholesome motherly loving blah blah blah, now is a very chatty hopeless romantic.

Joseph came out looking so ridiculously evil in the "after" picture, I love it. He never turns out quite how I initially plan for him to. Anyway, he was initially this humble, kindly, Marty Stu character, and now he's a womanizing egotist with an inferiority complex.

Uly started off as a big ball of neuroses. Now he's a simple minded, sometimes airheaded gentle giant.

Tony was initially supposed to be a baseball player, not really sure how that was gonna figure in to anything at all. Now he's more of a little clown with dating issues.

Does not even look like the same person. Originally was just going to be a big old wiseass. Now he's still retained the intelligence that goes along with the wiseassness, except with a heaping helping of irritability as seen in that petulant second picture there. (That shirt did not look that obnoxious when I was coloring it)

Once again does not look like the same person. She was another Mary Sue type, very nice very caring etc etc no one cares. She's really just eccentric and has little patience for people in general.

She just looks so tired of everyone in the first picture, doesn't she? She's still wealthy and a little bit of a drama queen, but I wanted to try to avoid the Spoiled Rich Girl personality stereotype, or at least not follow it to a T whenever possible.

Yeah, so. That's all I got. The New pictures are a little rough, just made them up today because I didn't have much else to do. Anyhow, anyone else wanna share how far you've come in your escapades?

Despite drastic exterior changes, the character is virtually the only character of mine to retain the same personality in different incarnations.

I actually found some papers going back another year that have the original original sketches. Even more bizarre. I mean none of them are finished or anything but everything's so opposite of the way it is now. Oh how far we've come.

Haha Robbo, that's such a great progression. You really found your style.

You can see why I redrew everything when I did (even if I changed my style again slightly afterwards).
If anyone ever wants evidence that webcomics can help improve your art I think I've got it, I still don't think my artwork's that good but it's definately a vast improvement from where it started.
