Social sites....worth it?

So I created a Twitter account with the purpose of posting my updates on it and make them convenient to for people to follow. I also made a facebook and Myspace for similar reasons. My tweets also show up on FB and Myspace.
I do like the Twitter idea, but I hate FB and Myspace and avoid going there if I can. And no one's going to see my tweets on those two sites, are they? Or will those sites update when I tweet? Sorry, I'm new to these sites. I prefer LiveJournal.
My questions is, is all that social networking worth it? Or is best to just stick to forums?

I guess it depends on how e-famous you want to be. If you are truly intent on getting the word about your work out to the masses, then every little bit of online presence helps.

Twitter is good. I like Twitter. In fact, I tend to follow comics more when they have Twitters and they're talkative through them and all. I like that connection to my webcomics.

I don't personally use them for promotion of my comics, but apparently they can be suprisingly efficient for promotion, after all they're filled with people with lots of free time. Of course you have to be handy at promotion there like anywhere else, posting bulletins that attract attention, befriending people and pretending that you're interested in more than plugging your comic to them, and all that kind of stuff.

I've considered doing this. Problem is I'm a little too lazy to do it right. I have a myspace account but have not idea how to use it in promotion.
But if you got a mind for this kind of thing it's absolutely worth it.

the whole reason I love autoupdate is that I can get things done way ahead of time and they post on their own, and I don't have to post something every day. Writing that I posted something, would defeat that purpose.

I don't know about Facebook and Myspace (hiss! hiss!), but
toplists,
Stumble Upon and
Deviant Art are definitely worth the trouble.

I use myspace only to keep in touch with friends who are no longer in the area. Other than that they serve no purpose other than keeping me from making my word balloons.

Twitter does seem to be a good thing for webcartoonists to do. People like it. When my comics start running again I'll get on board with Twitter. As for Facebook and Myspace, I wouldn't bother. Especially if you don't like it anyway. I like Facebook... but I like it for the connection to my own friends, not webcomics or fans.

I'm just curious, and I dunno if this is the place to ask, but what exactly is twitter? How do we use it to promote the comic? Or more accurately, how doe IT work to help us? Thanks in advanced!

I say it's not worth it unless you want to be there anyways. Otherwise you're spending time at some place hoping for a hit or two and damn it gets boring. Now if you see comics as work then that might be fine. I don't so I say nay.

There is an option in Facebook to have your tweets show up as your Facebook status; app here:
http://www.facebook.com/r.php?referrer= ... 2231777543 It works better if you already have facebook friends, but if you are going to tweet, why not?
I just blogged about using twitter for comics networking:

Twitter is like a mini-blog you can update from your phone. I've found it useful.

There already is a
Redtech on twitter. Shame she isn't me though. Seems like a nice gal.
I think my readers just learned to subscribe to whatever service is under the comic and just waited for updates through that. Very well trained indeed!

It's like when I got blitzed on Thanksgiving and woke up with a Facebook account.
