Blacklists and YOU.

Hi, folks! Haven't stopped by in a while. :) Haven't had much reason to. Some of you may have found a a crossover comic with which I'm involved, but my plans to create a new comic of my own are on pause while I try to get a novel published.

Anyway, I didn't come here to say hello, but to let you know that ComicGenesis is in trouble.

The hostname 'comicgenesis.com', and all sub-hosts of that domain, has been added to email blacklists as of 7/30/2008. This means that any email with a comicgenesis.com URL in it will be checked and discarded, undelivered, by any ISP who follows those blacklists. The blacklists listing comicgenesis.com so far are uribl and surbl. Go to those sites, put 'comicgenesis.com' (or your own subdomain name) into their lookup checkers, and see for yourself.

Someone from CG has to contact these blacklists and negotiate the removal of this entry. I don't think it'll be an easy negotiation, though -- comicgenesis.com was probably added to the lists because someone advertised their comic via mass emailings. So we may have a bad actor somewhere on CG, and the blacklists might be justified in telling ISPs to block them. On the other hand, I know that if the blacklists tell the CG admins who's responsible, I'm sure the admins will hammer that problem pretty quickly.

I noticed this when people stopped receiving my emails, because I have my comic's address in my email sig. :/ Had to take it out.

Hope y'all fix this wrinkle soon. And I hope you're all doing well. I won't be visiting often, but you'll see me here and there in the funny papers, I'm sure. :)

Thanks for the heads up.

This also happens a lot when people mark the CG emails as spam, though I have no idea why they would do that...

Having email blacklists is an incredibly stupid idea in the first place. You can specify what you want the "from" address to say in your email just as easily as you can write the subject.

You know when you see those "please don't reply to this email, it is generated automatically" things? That's because that's what they've done - they've just denoted an address that the email is from, there's nothing setup there to recieve replies.

It's because comicgenesis is way too popular to advertise more than we already do. They're jealous bastards. :shifty:
But in any case, look on the bright side: CG still exists and goes strong. ;)

email blacklists are ridiculous, especially considering people when sending emails can mask their address with an address they put in there.

Lord knows I used to get emails from myself all the time advertising things. -_-;

I know Cornstalker.com has been on a number of blacklists. I'm not entirely sure how it got there. Maybe it's the word "stalker" they don't like.

Blacklists? I can add this to my list of blacklists I'm on which is a rather large list of lists, which I wont list off right now.
Are you guys even listening anymore?
