Kind of weird that I was googling for "Webcomics are bad" and one of the results was this thread.

Why were you googling that?

It is a webcomics "review" site, right? Someone mentioned it in a 4chan thread so I got curious...

We'd all be safer if both of these things were remedied.

Are you thinking of
Your Webcomic is Bad and You Should Feel Bad, which was already discussed ad nauseam in this very thread?
Though if that is what you were talking about I can't blame you for forgetting. It took me a minute to remember it was already brought up myself. And this thread isn't even that long, relatively speaking, but it feels like it's been going on foreeeeeeeveeeeeeeeer.

Nah, I didn't read the whole thread because it's too long, and I don't want to spark another discussion about that blog since I checked it and it's shit.
Sometimes some things redirect me back here and remind me of how out of touch with webcomics I am, that's all.

Several webcomics are good and everyone should feel good.

There's only one webcomic that makes me feel good and it's this one:

Well i've taken the time to read the entire topic and I've come to one conclusion. I shall keep it brief as not to keep on beating a now mushy dead horse.
Web comic artists: You are taking yourselves WAY TOO SERIOUSLY. Your services is free, your fans have NO RIGHT to get pissy if you miss an update or stop. They're not paying you for your time and effort and unless they do that have no steak in the comic's lifespan. I update regularly to keep a routine going, not for the fans. (Not like I have many actually but that's not the point) The Premise of this topic seemed to be a frustration over comic artists not taking their craft seriously enough, I say people who make free online comics shouldn't take it seriously. "Serious" comic artists send their work to publishers or go to school. This is supposed to be for a mutual enjoyment for both the artist and the reader, not some pretentious "my intellect is bigger than yours" contest.
You all have a right to disagree with me but meh, I think each comic is great in its own way and needs improvement. Why the hate topic?

They have every right to be upset. And they have every right to stop reading your comic.

Yup they sure do. But until I start getting paid for my time then I have no right to stress out about it or put time/effort into it that I'm not getting paid for. Thus other projects can go on simultaneously while updates remain regular at least in my case.

You have every right to stress out about it and put effort into it. You also have the right not to.

If it's not worth stressing out about, it's not worth doing.

I wrote an 83-page thesis validating the art of comics and how the internet (and the comics on it) are changing an entire industry. I shouldn't take my craft seriously?

Heck, I just graduated with a degree in biology, and I'm currently applying to med school! I take everything I do seriously! Otherwise, what's the point? Not to mention I spend sometimes 20 hours on a page a week, without recompense. That much time into a project=extremely serious.
(purposeful drama inserted into the above paragraph. I assure you, I am laughing right now as I write this, though I am completely serious.)
My comic is free. My story MEANS something. It means something to ME that I have an audience who reads and enjoys what I make. When I miss an update, I share the frustration of my audience, because I let myself down. I made that schedule, not anyone else. I goofed, got sick, didn't have the time, had to study, etc. But when you enjoy something, you certainly have the right to get pissy when you can't enjoy it (from both the webcomicker and the webcomic reader's perspective.)
*please note, I stumbled onto this thread accidentally and totally did not read the previous 15 pages. I will now submit to my lashing.

Skip the previous 15 pages.
Not everything worth doing should be taken seriously. If you have fun doing this and don't feel a need to kill yourself over updating on time, then good. If you NEED to let comics ruin your life, then that's a perfectly valid stance as well. Get what's yours from out this fucka, don't worry about everyone else's rules.
