Get Ya Freak On.

A cute redhead had a sidewalk sale down the street from me on Saturday. Figured I could safely ignore it as I do most garage sales but upon closer inspection she had some CDs I've had my eye on for awhile. For two bucks I came home with Methodman & Redman as well as Missy Elliot. Both bangers.

I've also been listening to Let It Be by The Replacements a lot. Great record. Both juvenile and heartfelt, like any punk record with pop aspirations should be.

Currently trying to decide if I should blow money on an MIA concert.

I know, right?

Trouble is she's gonna be at the Aragon Ballroom, which is kind of this big, lousy venue, and I'm broke like the joke I am. But, MIA.

Maybe I can talk some friends into talking me into going.

It's simple math that our Forum's Charlie Brown could not resist a cute red head.

Ooooh, that's so much cooler than being "Resident Stoic."

She sported a black tanktop and tatoos. Glad I found Missy in there, I probably would've ended up with a Korn CD otherwise.

Any other Spacers wanna see MIA with me?

Look in the mirror.

MIA's in May. We should also go to Pitchfork in July. I forget who's playing though.

Anyone hear the new Raconteurs yet? Kinda forgot all about them, and I kinda think Jack White should stick with Meg. Am I right?

I assumed it was a take on "Suburban Letdown", but I can't finish the connection.

White Stripes are better indeed, but it must be hard working in that setup and being consistently good. Since I think that "Icky thumps" was far superior to "Get behind me satan", that would mean that break from 'Stripes did him good. Plus Raconteurs are still good. I should be getting new album in a day or two.
Have you listened to "Dig Lazarus dig" yet?

Haven't heard it yet, but I hear good things about it. Kind of a return to form with just a touch of that rawness from Grinderman, is that an accurate description?

And there are far worse things than The Raconteurs, it's true. I really liked Satan as a departure, and definitely listen to it more than Broken Boy Soldiers, which I got tired of really quickly. I imagine I"ll still end up with this new Raconteurs record anyway, and if Jack needs something to keep him busy, that's cool, just so long as the Stripes keep putting out records.

Why return to form, he's in a very good form already. I guess people expect him to start singing murder ballads again, but what's the point, he's been there, done that, moved on.
Lazarus is ok, rawer than "Abbatoir blues", but I find songs themselves, particularly harmonies, somewhat predictable. I've only listened to it a few times though.

And there are far worse things than The Raconteurs, it's true. I really liked Satan as a departure, and definitely listen to it more than Broken Boy Soldiers, which I got tired of really quickly. Satan was a departure only in instruments used, while songs themselves were the same stuff they did on previous albums. That's what I didn't like, if he was going for a change, I didn't think that just switching guitar for a piano was gonna do, he had to change something in songwriting ("Icky thumps", I think, was more of a departure if only in kicking overall lunacy up a notch). "Satan" has some good songs on it, but listening to it just makes me wanna listen to "White blood cells" and "Elephant" where there are better versions of the same musical schemes.
