Have you ever seen something in real life that was *extremely* reminiscent of your comic (Say, a joke, a person or whatnot)?

For example, the other week, I saw someone with the *exact* same hair one of the characters in my comic has -- all pink minus a side-style blue fringe. I'd never seen anyone in real life with that hair before. It was even the same length and the exact same style... strange, haha.

My characters have plenty of look-alikes. THey're based off real people

Likewise. Much of what goes on in the strip stems from things I see happening when I go to work. Except the stuff with the spirits, of course...

Best thing is when the kids at work actually recognise themselves doing something they've seen in the comic and quote the joke at the end.

Man, my hair is that color. Shorter than the characters, but still short.

Nothing that wasn't derived from real world in the first place. I don't think that things from comics that we based on real life count.

Sketchy, you should walk in front of Chris Crosby's house dressed like that girl from Sore Thumbs, to creep him out a bit.

I was at a restaurant once when a friend with me pointed across the room. Getting up to leave was a man who looked, and dressed, -exactly- like one of my major characters. It was a very creepy moment.

Absolutely, although- it hasn't happened to me. I had someone write to me, who SWORE she saw a couple of my characters (same personalities and all) in a mall in Toronto. Where- I have never been-- now that's weird.

Well I haven't seen much of my stuff in real life, but my comic is based on real life stuff. Mostly restaurant stuff.

Actually, I saw a girl at 6 flags and I couldn't tell if she was a chick or a dude, and I decided she'd be perfect for my androgenous character.

...If she were a dude.

I think if you base your comic vaguely off real life, and you write your characters realistically/well enough, and you write enough stuff, sooner or later you will encounter a person or situation which reminds you of something you've written. I have on several occasions met someone and said to myself "they're just like so-and-so from that story I wrote!"

But overall it's much easier to go the opposite direction, from real life to the comic :P

There was one storyline titled "Under Pressure" where a suspended player rallied the fans and cheered against his teammate. Cue 6 months later at start of NFL season. There was reports of Raiders WR Jerry Porter cheering against his team on the sidelines and trying to get the fans to join in during the terrible blowout.

Heh, I often had people who used to work in fast foods telling me that "mcDuffies" is pretty close representation of such job (well minus all the fantasy and adventures I guess) which is very nice because I myself never worked there. Now I'll have Hollywood actors telling me that "Kill'er now" is a close representation of their jobs, I hope.

But one of funny coincidences was, as you might know, "mcDuffies" from the comic is a fast food restaurant. But unknown to me at the time of naming the comic, there's a renowed scottish bakery with long tradition called "mcDuffies", known for it's shortbread cookies. It's every funnier because my family actually owns a bakery (not called "mcDuffies" though).

80% of our comic comes from stuff that's really happened to or between us...

It is funny when people will bring it up to me and be like "I saw that in a comic somewhere" not realizing that it was our comic they saw it in...

Yeah, when I took the name, I was unaware of all the symbolisms that can be derived.

My comic is set in a slightly fictionalised version of a real place. That said...there have been some freakish coincidences involving happenings in my comic and simultaneous (or nearly simultaneous) happenings in the aforementioned real place.

Everything in my comic is real. Except for the fact that we're strangely naked the entire time.

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IN MY COMIC IS DERIVED FROM REAL LIFE IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM. IT IS EVERY OUNCE MY WORK.

giant box of crap, but those are a dime-a-dozen these days.
