Who does more than one webcomic?

Post by Uncaringmachine »

And is it difficult to juggle doing two, three, or even four comics? And do you update them all the same amount of days, or is one seven days a week and the other three? Just wondering, because I'm thinking of reviving some old characters of mine from about nine years ago for a webcomic.

I have two which I am doing now. Life Is A SitCom is updated on m/w/f. The second is Blue Jersey and updates when I can, usually in batches, since all I do is trace a 20 year old comic I did many years ago. A third will be starting in June, The Zehnn Doctrine which will be weekly and possibly have a two year run. A fourth, Genuine Draft, an adaptation of a novel I wrote is possible in the fall, just finished most of the character designs. A fifth, Blood Lyne another adaptaion may be started in the fall or winter depending on how I feel about Gen Draft. I just hope I don't get overwhelmed with my projects.

I draw and write and manage a 5 day a week comic, and write, letter, and manage a second one.

I meant to start a few, back when I spent only an hour a day on Fainting Spells. But I gradually started spending more and more time on it so I've had to give up on other projects.

I am currently buffering two of them, and starting up a third.

I have three, but I've only ever worked on two of them at a time. S'difficult for me, because I'll go through long periods of not-wanting-to-draw-itis.

To solve this, I'm going to be starting all three back up gradually, but I'm going to be looking for folks to take over the art while I just stick with the writing. If I can get all three set up and running well for a few months, I may even start up a fourth.

And then the intarwebs shall be MINE

I've done more than one before. Frankly, it was too much for me to run two comics on a regular schedule, on top of schoolwork. So, if you go for regular schedules, calculate how much time it would take you a week, and make sure you're up to it.
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."

I write for six webcomics at the moment, but mind you... the writing part doesn't take long at all. If I had to DRAW all those comics, I'd go nuts.

*glances at his siggie bar* Hmm.. how to fit two more in there...

Well, my whole idea starting c.w. comics was that there would be a regularly updating comic, but occasionally there would be supplemental short stuff.

At the beginning of This is: i had the time, and finished one such comic*, started a second**, and set up what will be the regularly updating comic***. Unfortunately, This is: got pretty unwieldy in it's second half, and i kind of gave up the idea for a while.

Once This is: done, i'll be cutting to a once a week regular schedule and will try to make at least one short comic per quarter.

*Hello, My Name is _____.
**I quit working on it because it was in color, and infinite canvas on traditional material. I just sort of ran out of the money to buy big watercolour paper.

For awhile last year I drew Role of the Die for Jim, but then he decided to stop writing it, so I stopped drawing it. Looking back, I probably would've eventually gone crazy if we had kept that up, since I started spending more and more time on Distant Eras.

I'm updating LWK two pages a week and Kill'er Now three pages a week. I had a big buffer of K'N when I was starting, but that buffer is leaking out now and I'm not exactly good with free time. LWK is a priority, when I'm out of comics, I'm doing it first.

I wouldn't begin another webcomic for all the tea in China.

For many, many reasons, but I guess the main one is I enjoy my time with this one and don't see a reason to get involved in anything else.
