Rebirth of Webcomic Above Discussion

Post by Humbug »

So far, no discussion thread for the Webcomic above review thread has been created so I thought I'd start it. ^^

To Komi, I don't think you were harsh at all. It was exactly the sort of crit I was looking for, and I think it's very informative and gives me an idea on my strenghts and weakneses. :D

I can't say much about the writing since Net is handling that, but yes, we will delve deeper into the characters motivations and backgrounds, at the moment we're still very early in the story and haven't had much chance to do so. They won't be paper cutouts for long, I promise, right Net? *Nudge* *Nudge* ;)

I finished mine. It's 2 AM so my writing is probably rambling at its best.

I'd like to contribute, but I fear I'm not of sufficient caliber to critique The Neko, so I'll bide my time.

As I mentioned in chat, Komi, you weren't harsh at all. :) I have the same issue in TTG, and it's not something I have any control over at all. I can't prove that they're not cookie cutter until more pages have been completed.

And I just can't bring myself to use the whip on my artists. I just don't have it in me... that, and, er... I'm still not sure who's got who in these situations. :p

Thank you for the review. :) *glomp*

I think you're getting the two threads mixed up

To be fair, I haven't read your new comic yet, M2. :P Also, Ceej, I was also confused for at least a minute. The titles are scary similar. :o
Caught in the headlamp glare of your own blinding vanity/Mesmerised by the stare of your shallow personality
Gorging the junk food of flattery you drag your fat ego around/Everyone floored by the battering you give to whoever's around
Oh Narcissus you petulant child admiring yourself in the curve of my eyes/Oh Narcissus you angel beguiled unsated by self you do nothing but die

IT BUUUUUUURRRRRRNNNSSSSS

well it's only 16 pages :P I kinda jumped in the thread without seeing the 20something page limit...
But there is an extinsive catalog available for viewing. And please don't make the mistake of thinking any of the people under "affiliates and contributors" have anything to do with the current comic: Poppett's Story, that's all mine except some characters borrowed from NJ

Because I'm not going to discuss this in the Webcomic Above thread, I'll bring it here.

Dragon Kingdoms, reread #3. I'll copy/paste it here for you.
3) Do not ask for a review unless you are completely intent upon reviewing the person before you. Reviews should be THOROUGH within reason. "Hey, I like it!" is not thorough. Read the damn comic and give it a good review.
Tales of Pylea review : 597
Darken review : 298
Orange Revolution review : 268
Metrophor review : 311

Your review of Alternate Delusions? 139 words total.

Either expand your review of Alternate Delusions somewhat, or don't ask for another review.

Well, I saw my review, and, well...

AAAAAH! j/k

I'd say most of it was quite accurate. Particularly on characterization and navigation. As to why the archive starts with a different comic than #1, even in 2004 when I signed up, I thought it would turn away every reader I could've possibly gotten. By the middle of 2005, I knew it was time to end that old, beaten series, replacing it with better, if only marginally so, comics.

At least the shading worked out, I kept that.

This is where my work stands today. The newest series, Dawn of a New Era.

I thank you for the review, The Neko.

My Alternate Delusions review is now 347 words, check it out! or suffer.

Hope you enjoy your review, for what it is. An enjoyable read!

Tdot, The white stuff is stars, not snow, I can see why you'd think that though

to answer your question it's something I'm explaining over the course of the pages that are just happening and about to happen. Slaves don't have mouths and have to project their thoughts to communicate, in other words they speak with their minds, that's why the black tails of the bubbles most often point to the head instead of the mouth area. They aren't thought bubbles because the things being said aren't inner monologue. It will be more clear soon, but I wont say why.
I know I have background issues and I do plan to do something about it I just haven't found the time yet, if you do keep reading you'll see what I mean.

I fear knowing how worse my comic already is. I'm too scared to take a place holder.

I posted a reveiw but it's very short because well there isn't a whole lot in the comic it self. So I guess I'll just wait for someone else to reveiw to post.
Could be worse; could be raining.

Yeah, did my review. It's actually kind of nice not critiquing my own work for once. I tend to be so harsh on myself that this was a much needed break.

So instead you'll be harsh on ME, nice :P

*edit after I read the review*

Phew, those are all issues I know I have. I HATE my writting, by my fav jokes are ones that I can't put across visually, so I have some stuff on back burner. It's pissing me off admittedly though. I need a scanner, or a wacom. And yeah you're right I do try to do something new with every comic. I like messing around with my style. As for the pic driven comics, I hate those too. As I update regularly, I'll delete those from the archives. Truth be told, I got lazy and tried to keep up with my updates.
