Several dozen one-to-three-page strips -- mostly context-free excerpts from longer stories -- by fledgling cartoonists whose Web comics are hosted by comicgenesis.com. Unfortunately, they're all pretty amateurish. D
...Uh, but we ARE amateurs, and it would be silly to deny that. Next year I do hope to present something more polished-looking, but eh.

Also looking forward to getting my copy in the mail. :D

I didn't even know of any Comic Book stores around here until I looked up my zip code. I now have the CG and KS samplers in my hands.

Somehow I don't think the reviewer meant "amateurs" in the Emma Peel way, or the "unpaid" or "up-and-comers without a staff to spend several months polishing the final project" way, but in the "this is bad" way. Which is a shame, since it's a site with enormous traffic and a way CG comics might attract new readers. But perhaps it will hold true that all publicity is good publicity.

I'm still hoping to hear more good, or at least thoughtful, reviews from bloggers (amateurs) or major websites (whatever).

He mentioned it here.

If you didn't give him your address, you're probably not getting one in the mail.

I didn't see the CG book at either of the stores I went to today (dropping off this year's photocopied-and-stapled Station V3 book), but I did get the KS one. The one I was really happy to find was the "Unseen Peanuts" book. :)

"Comics Genesis: An incredibly uneven compilation of web-comics. There's some good material here, some terrible material here, and a lot of mediocre material here.
Rating: Eh"

Yay, we got better than his "Avoid." And we can each of us think of ourselves as being the good material :o

The store didn't have the CG or KS books, but I guess it's my own damn fault for being a lazy ass and not going until late afternoon. Oh well, lesson learned, and I don't go to comic book stores often (due to proximity) so it was a fun outing anyways.

We got FIVE copies!

I think they're spiffy, and I think the guy who says they aren't spiffy is a jerk. I'd have thought it spiffy, even if my own comic wasn't in there.

*shakes fist at heathen blog writers*

The comic store near us was all but out of the ComicGenesis sampler - they had three copies left. I didn't take one because I wanted someone without one to get it.

I actually maganed to procure a few copies of the book, seeing as how the comic shop by my house didn't close, it just moved. The shop guy also let me take more than one after I proved to him I was in the book.

I crashed a couple comic shops in Omaha to see if they had a few copies left. One was out of the books, and the other had just one left, but it was very cool to see it in print right there with all the others.
