Comic Genesis Yearbook Idea
It came to me in my sleep this morning: We should have a CG Yearbook. We could pick a standard size and format, and then everyone who wants to participate could submit a yearbook picture of their forum personality. We could choose class officers, have polls and elect superlatives ("most likely to...whatever," "Creepiest spacer," etc.) - whoever won could draw the picture for their category. There could also be club pictures, like "The Mad Scientist Club" and all its members, and we could even include pictures from forum life, like memorable moments from Jams and RL pictures of get-togethers, like the St. Louis cookout. There would have to be a yearbook commitee - it would take quite a bit of work to get it all together, but if it was successful, then it could be sent to Lulu or something so that people could buy it for a few dollars. And then any proceeds would go to benefit CG, in whatever way is most appropriate.
What's the general opinion? I think it would be really neat to have a CG yearbook...and that way, we could even have fellow spacers sign them when we meet up. ^_^

I think it's a great idea -- I'd buy one, and I'd love to have it signed when I meet up with forumites. :3
That being said, I kind of wonder whether something like this might make the community seem that much more clique-ish and intimidating for new members. (And whether it'd get finished, considering our track record, eh?)

But what if we don't have a personality?Nanda wrote:We could pick a standard size and format, and then everyone who wants to participate could submit a yearbook picture of their forum personality.
Wait. That came out wrong.
But seriously, cool idea.

Good idea. I speak from experience when I give this advice: If you want the project to go anywhere, you need to take strong leadership of it, or find someone who will take strong leadership. Stuff by committee doesn't get done around here. Suggestion: Leave a page or two of blank picture spaces so people who show up after it's completed can draw themselves into other people's yearbooks.
Hey, at least you had one. The yearbook committee kinda went to pot after my last year there. The school closing down didn't help much either.Jackhass wrote:I'm sure I'd end up with no pictures or mentions in it just like my real yearbook.
I don't think I got back my pre paid 10 bucks afterwards either.

Interesting idea! I would suggest you getting a couple editors to run the whole thing and someone who's good at layout to give the technicals for image submissions, DPI, and overall design. If you make it into a PDF, everyone can get ahold of it and print one of their own.
My school had 3,800 students, so the yearbooks were very big.

Well, relatively new members such as myself still get to participate in most community activities ;o) But for this one, well, I think if I put my picture in a CG yearbook the rest of you would just scratch your heads wondering if you're supposed to remember me from somewhere. Still, this is the kind of idea that makes this forum fun.Keffria wrote:That being said, I kind of wonder whether something like this might make the community seem that much more clique-ish and intimidating for new members.
