Webcomic Battle

Hmm, figured this might be threadworthy for those of you who fancy giving it a go. The idea is that you submit a page of your comic, which will be randomly pitted against a page of another entered comic. Readers are then able to click on the page they think is better. The page with the most votes at the end of the day continues to fight again tomorrow. The losing page gets retired. It's generally a pretty good way to pick up new readers, as it showcases your best work and an outlink is provided to your site.
I'm currently on day 13, and my traffic has tripled. Although it looks like I'm gonna get knocked out now anyway.
Linky is here:
Webcomic Battle
I wanna see some CGers on there, cause some of the competition at the moment isn't great.

Unfortunately, it seems to be geared more towards gag-a-day-type comics; something with an ongoing storyline would be confusing to someone who's just clicking by. Although a page with pretty art might still win if pitted against some of the more awful submissions on that site.

Yeah, I'm out. That is definitely for instant gratification comics. But some of them are really funny!

Yeah, it probably helps if you've got some stand alone comics that don't really require backstory. Although, if your art is good, you're still in with a chance. Most of the entries on there tend to focus on the funny, and do the drawing as an afterthought. In fact, I've seen someone use just copied and pasted photos of chewing gum. No idea what that was about. God only knows how that one got through the screening process.
You do get some good ones on there, and it's nice to get a guage on how you're doing compared to others. It's a bit more objective than having your close friends giving you their critique.
I wanted to get to number 1 on the hall of fame though :'(
I'm only number 3

I remember hearing bad things about a service like this, where votes were changed by the people who ran it or something like that. I can't remember if this was the one or if it was a different one.

I think it used to be possible to fiddle the votes on this one, but this has since been fixed by the site's admin. So yeah, it probably was this, but no, it's not an issue anymore.

Bugger. Seems mine are too wide for their submissions...I'll have to shrink them down to fit.
Well, bugger.

Hmmm...interesting.
Unfortunately the comics I've done I like best are wrapped up in larger storylines and wouldn't stand as well on their own.

Oh. I think those are the guys who didn't accept me into the battle because it wasn't up to their criterium.

I put a couple of comics up at Webcomic Battle several months ago, and since then it puttered out and died. This is the first that I heard it was back up. Something was in fact wrong with their voting system, but if they're back I guess they must have fixed it.
You've got to remember to vote for your own comic, because at least when I did it the amount of people actually going to the site and voting was so low that every vote counted for quite a bit =P

Well, my comic just got knocked out on round 13. That leaves it at number 3 in the hall of fame. I'll submit a new one tomorrow, and I hope to come up against some comicgen comics this time

We should do our own version of that, so that we can all slowly turn against each other and I may take control in the ensuing chaos!
*ahem* I didn't say that. >_>
Anyway, looks kinda neat. My comic might work in that sort of context, given that it slot of alternates (or combines) gag-a-day stuff and stories.

I took the plunge and put one of mine up for show a few hours ago. We'll see what happens...
Knowing my luck I'll come up against something with naked women and ninjas and all the other stuff nerds seem to think cool and get slaughtered...
Fair dinkum, if I fell into a barrel of nipples I'd come out sucking my thumb...
But we'll see how it goes, eh?

I threw my hat into the ring, but I expect to be knocked out fast. I'm a storyteller, not a joker.

And now I'm afraid. I FEAR REJECTION! Crap.
Not to mention that I can't think of a good single strip to submit. Curse my indeciseiveness!

That your traffic "tripled" is of note.
Go fuck yourself.
These types of competitions are "divisory", not "inclusive".
It uses the presumption that one comic is better than another, measured on a general scale that reflects the same measurable results for all artists.
SURE: In the real world, this is always the case. One comic is ALWAYS better than another, depending on the yard-stick used. The most basic measurement yields that "Garfield" is the best comic ever written, just above "Peanuts", due to it's box-office gross, and it's sales of spuerfluess plushie-dolls.
"One man's trash is another man's Ladmo-Bag". {coined by the great Andrew J. Stone.}
Am I the person to make this statement? Is my word worthy?
Well, I have no comic to speak of, and I have no hits to speak of. I have no CLOUT to speak of... So I must admit that my clout and/or relevance is a non-event at best.
Then again... Do I need to draw a strip just to put you in your place?
I can. I have.
So can others, so can many. So can McDuffies, fastest of all. Do you need to be reminded what bullshit you blast from the bull-horn?
Naw. You're right. A competetion on a single web-page for the purpose of determining the greatest popularity is the best thing since flavored, glow-in-the-dark condoms.
But please, at your mercy, don't be bitter if the list is not great. I'm not doing or saying anything to anyone outside this post - or before. Just know that this seems to smack of eliteism, and eliteism don't fly with impressionists.
All comic artists are impressionists. Didn't know that? now you do. Go forth and be bold, and die and stuff. You fucking ass-hole DIE DIE DIE! I wish you to DIE~
Then again, it's just another thing.
Did your idea take hold? Let's see......
I don't see it.
But e-mail me if it appears that it might. There's always a chance.
Peas.
