Use your RSS feed to post your updates at OnlineComics.net
I just wanted to mention that ComicGenesis users can now have their comic updates announced automatically on OnlineComics.net simply by attaching their RSS feed to their OC.net comic listing. Just go to the Auto-Updates section to enable this feature.

Josh, read the rules next time before you post anything like this.

I see it as Josh being helpful because a lot of people on ComicGenesis use his service.
Thank you Josh for letting us know.

I don't believe he even needs to ask for permission. That's why RSS feeds exist, and they were set for us to use them. Among several other things, the individual RSS feeds for each CG comic display the last time that given comic updated, which I believe is the feature Josh is using.rkolter wrote:My only question was if this was allowed (the use of our RSS files in this way). Apparently it is, since neither Redwolf nor Merc complained about that.
This is not hurtful to Comic Genesis, people! It's actually the opposite! People browsing OC will now be notified of the updates of their favorite comics, which means more pageviews for CG and more monies as well. If Kelly thought matters fiirst before acting he'd realize this out. But we all saw this before, so I guess we can just thank Josh and move on.

That's a neat feature. There's one minor hiccup, though. Some of us don't have ComicGen URLs. I, for example, am hosted on Comic Genesis, but I have my own URL; one which is not *comicname*.comicgenesis.com.
It's not a big deal for me, because I still use the old Page Scan feature, but for other ComicGen users with unique URLs, the new feature is simply unavailable to them.

I'm going to say this as straight as possible:
It's an ad. It may be comic related, it may proport a service that'll benifit CG users, and it may be free... but it's an ad. I also object because I got confused weither or not CG was doing it or it was OnlineComics.net (of course, it's OnlineComics.net doing it).
I would of approved of this if I was contacted first and the wording were tweaked slightly. I betcha Kisai or Merc would of approved it as is. Ether way, it would of gone through.
I know it's a bit of red tape to go through, but I'd rather have good ads here that get approved to post then having some spammer that me, Merc, and/or Kisai have to ban immedately. I said this before: Please run any ad for an outside service through your favorite forum admin (Merc, Kisai, me) for approval. Most anything goes (I'm not picky about 'em as long as I'm asked).
If you have a question about the rules, or if you doubt your annoucement will pass through without me foaming at the mouth, please ask!

BTW -- all comics have RSS feeds, and a .comicgenesis.com/.comicgen.com domain (which domain you choose is up to you, the others redirect). Third party domain holders who are "parked" here have the .comicgenesis.com/.comicgen.com domains redirected to the new domain, and retain the RSS feeds.
How you or anyone else uses them, or make them availible on a third party site, is up to you -- I think OnlineComics.net's RSS comic reader service is a great idea. I may try it someday. Right now I'm behind two comics trying to get FCBD 2006 off the ground.

Admins and mods have their positions for a reason. And janitoring the forum to sweep bad pitches and spam should be one of their responsabilities. It's not that hard. If you think it doesn't suit, lock it, move it and pronto.
Now, what I see here is almost what I saw happening to War. I'm seeing a power-driven, control-freak admin being extremely obnoxious to someone just trying to help. If you think this is just an ad, then goddamnit keep it to yourself. This ad happens to benefit both authors and CG as whole, and your role as admin is to support both.
By your token, I'd have to ask for permission to post a Comixpedia reminder everytime a CG'er gets interviewed/reviewed there because technically it is an ad even though it concerns the community.
I don't believe I'm having this discussion. I'm such a fucking drama queen.

Pull up please, all of you. Don't turn a helpful thread into ANOTHER one of these threads.
Kelly has now outlined what he feels constitutes as an advertisement (perhaps if you could tweak the rules thread a bit to outline this - I for one, saw this thread as more of an announcement and less of an advertisement), and for now please let that be the end of that.
Thank you.
And thanks for the nifty feature Josh!

The guy got the approval of the community, which ranks a lot higher than the approval of their admin. If anything the rules should be changed to reflect this.pierce studios wrote:Pull up please, all of you. Don't turn a helpful thread into ANOTHER one of these threads.

I'm stepping down this debate not because you're asking, but because I have nothing further to say. I know it is tiresome and we're just repeating the same things over and over, but if we didn't then Stredwolf would start to think that everyone is okay with his attitude.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll modify the feature to allow different URLs for the comic listings and RSS feeds. I'll post here when I've made the changes, which should be early next week.Mr. Neil wrote:There's one minor hiccup, though. Some of us don't have ComicGen URLs. Also, I'd like to apologize to everyone - users and admins - for opening up a can of worms with this thread. It wasn't my intention.
