Comic Genesis Forums

I've been busy on a non-comic forum (the SciFi Channel's Battlestar Galactica forum) occasionally trying to drum up new readership (people who probably haven't read webcomics before). And I've managed one or two people to visit my review site. However, what I'd like is something that would attract them more directly.

Or in other words, rather than have people read my reviews... I'd like to have some links to put forth and attract people to space-based scifi comics. Unfortunately, I only know of a few, such as Venus Ascending, Gunmetal Annie, Schlock Mercenary, and Angels 2200.

So I'm hoping some of you could provide me with other comics I could link (and the URLs for those comics). And maybe a quick description of them.

Two scifi must-haves, even though they are parodies:

Legostar Galactica http://legostargalactica.comicgen.com A gag comic that parodies Star Trek, among other things. Done completely in Legos.

Star Bored: http://oosterwijk.comicgenesis.com A well-written parody of a number of science fiction pieces, most prominently Star Wars.

Also, check the Sci-Fi section of the Wiki. Not all of them are about space travel, though.

This is a good place to start. And the fact that there are descriptions underneath all the comics means I don't have to do any work to suggest anything.

Light of the Stars is a space-based sci-fi which I draw for, but it's been on hold since this summer. (The writer's an active-duty Marine without much time off). Hopefully it will be back on its feet by the end of the year.

Not sure if Freefall qualifies. Definitely sci-fi, but they've only gotten into space once. Very good physics, though, when they were there.

You probably already have Starslip Crisis. Same guy that did Checkerboard Nightmare.

Wigu sometimes does space travel, and I think they'll be doing more of it in the future. Then again, predicting anything the creator of Wigu does is nearly impossible.

I've just been turned onto Nine Planets without Intelligent Life. Thoughtful comic done in infinite canvas format.

Those, and some listed above, are about all the space webcomics I've ever seen.

Since I'm the writer and my buddy Blacklist Billy draws it, I would be criminally innocent of pimpage if I didn't mentionDoc Hyperion.

Doc is a black and white sci-fi/space opera comic in the tradition of Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon, but the greats of the genre have feet of clay and so does Doc, which is meant to be a mix of both the innocent and the lurid elements of classic 30s pulp adventure. Doc Hyperion - the hero history forgot, Prof. Anton Atomvik - mad scientist extroadinaire, and Gail Gardner - the mandatory codependent Gal Friday, battle the godlike Emperor Vladius. Lots of weird aliens, gigantic spaceships, and a nifty language just waiting to be decoded.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way I've recently been enjoying Quantum: Rock of Ages, which involves various people from alternate realities fusing with fragments of a cosmic artifact shattered by an experiment in a dimension where the Nazis won WWII. A core group of those granted powers by the fragments is slowly forming, which is good since a shadowy mastermind has assembled a crosstime gang of assassins to kill them and recover the fragments.

Bleh. I can't think of anything that hasn't already been mentioned. From what I've already seen suggested, I'll second: Star Bored is a really great one, as is Gunmetal Annie. Too bad neither of them are frequently updated anymore.

There's Zortic, which is alternately quite funny and cringeworthy..

Most of the popular and well known ones have been listed, but the wiki would be the best place to go for links and information (as already said and linked above), also http://www.onlinecomics.net.

I also pimp myself, as I do a space-faring webcomic (points to link in signature) and yes as mentioned before http://www.ace147.com go take a look at that.

Hmm... well, there's not a TON of sci-fi comics on my reading list. One I haven't seen mentioned is Thanatos, which normally is located at

Station V3 (http://www.stationv3.com) is set on and around a space station in a distant solar system.

Z7 (http://z7.comicostrich.com) is its spinoff, set on a small space station that gets used to inadequately fill in for others after a problem, or put where no other station wants to be.
