About crybabys in general.
I remember back when I first started posting here, there was one time where I posted a link to something and it turned out that it had already been linked to earlier in the thread. The way I found out was someone jumping down my throat and yelling at me for not seeing it was already done. Was I offended? Yeah, a bit. It seemed kind of ridiculous for someone to be getting all up in arms over such a little thing. Nevertheless, I kept my mouth shut, learned my lesson, and now know that it's just what you might have to go through when you first come on here.
You learn the rules either by reading 'em, or by trial and error, and if it's the latter, you're gonna get hazed. Suck it up, kid. You gotta learn one way or the other. It's the way you react to the hazing that shows your character, and ultimately decides whether you'll be sticking around or not (aka: banning, or just not coming back).

There's been abuse of moderators lately, eh? Bugger me. I post one minor grumble (yeah, minor, cos its nothing really worth getting defensive about, and to Merc's credit I don't think she's taking this as personal criticism) and we've got a trend.
How come it's taken me this long to be considered trendy?
I just reckon people should cut others a little more slack from time to time, especially to those who've just dropped in. As others have agreed in the thread, hold up on jumping on the noobbashing (new compound word) bandwagon (another compound word! Woo!) and leave a quiet 'you buggered up there, champ' and let the thread run a little longer. If the poor bugger realises they've buggered up at least they've got a chance to apologise and maybe redeem themselves a little instead of not having a right of reply.
Maybe I just have a bit more faith in the compassion of humankind.
Cheers.

So maybe you're right, I've been impolite a number of times.
But it still doesn't make you right! You are wrong!
And STFU!

Honestly... why? "Paraphrasing" is not inventing words and putting them in people's mouths. I might as well have "paraphrased" you as "Yarps: Blah blah I hate Goobla! STFU! OMFGROFL[/angry rant]" This kind of misrepresentation doesn't contribute to anything. Such random sarcasm is highly unnecessary.
How you managed to transmute my reply into "STFU" and "Large angry rant" and other horrendous things, let alone the gross simplifications of the other two posts, I confess I do not know. Why you commented on both our short remarks with this type of content eludes me. If you had some objection to make, it would have surely been better made by not sarcastically misrepresenting events, but by addressing things actually said.
Here's an incomplete paraphrasing of "mcDuff vs. Goobla" (which is not really a fight)
Goob. I think regulars insulting someone for what seems like an honest mistake was rude. We evidently do not live in a perfectly polite world, but hopefully we can all try to be more polite the future.
mcDuff. You are full of it. I don't like you getting on your moral high horse. You have been rude in the past also. Who are you lecture on such things.
Goob. Obviously you are necessarily right about past rudeness, but given that I did not exempt myself from the standards of etiquette I expressed, and readily condemn myself for rude behaviour I've myself engaged in before, I don't believe that the expression of my opinion was hypocritical.
You are free to misinterpret my intentions, fabricate allusions to my emotional condition, recombobulate actual statements, invent others, replying with whatever sarcastic paraphrasing you can. You are free to go ahead and portray me through such tactics as someone throwing some sort of horrifically rude fit when I replied to particular statements, which came absolutely out of the blue and for no good reason, by saying that they were impolite and unneeded.
Though I obviously hope that is not so, that you will not angrily explode while misreading this post to be an "angry rant", "stfu", or any other kind of thing it is clearly not.
I am baffled as to why on Earth you are contributing to causing a drama. I can't see why you've attempted to rudely portray me as saying things I've not said. Just as I also have no idea why people got so emotionally worked up that they felt like lobbing mean comments at Dutch! earlier in the chatroom behind his back. It all seems so senseless to me.
Happy fluffy sodomizations with love
Goobla.

Because recently it seems that every time someone breaks the rules and Merc gives them a verbal warning which essentially boils down to "Okay, but please don't do it again", you guys rally and cry "injustice!!".It screws with the guys' egos!
Faith is what credulity becomes when it finally achieves escape velocity from the constraints of terrestrial discourse- reasonableness, internal coherence, civility, and candor. Thus, the men who commited the atrocities of September 11 were neither cowards nor lunatics of any sort, but Men of Faith- perfect faith- and this, it must finally be acknowleged, is a terrible thing to be.

I fail to see how moderators are trigger-happy. I for one only regret reacting too slow, for the fear of being accused as trigger-happy. Rkolter still didn't even have a chance to react to something serious. Faub used to lock some threads that he saw as potential flame-wars simply because he was the only active mod of GD at the time and didn't have time to visit it regulary enough, so that was pure neccesity. Yeahduff is probably the most level-headed person on these entire forums. Merc, as I said is not trigger happy, people expect her to be trigger-happy because of her temperament so they apply her things she never did. I can think of only one person in power who can be described as trigger-happy, and he's not a mod.
All I can say is, try being a mod on such forum and then complain. People see all times when we react, but you never see all times when we consider reacting and then decide to let it go. Or situations where it's hard to actually see who is right and who is wrong. When someone is warned, he seems to see that as some horrible personal act against him in person, while it's just a simple "calm down" statement. Banning is an ultimate punishment, and if someone complains that he is punished for minor offense, the fact that he can still post on these forums tells that we are aware that it was a minor offense and that we didn't seize any major punishment on him. Cases of someone being banned are very rare and even thread locking (which is, again, not any kind of ultimate punishment of sorts) is very rare - that last few months brought more locked threads than ever as Dutch said, is simply not true.

*nod* Goobla knows. He has a pose, he knows that most of us know him too long to be fooled by this pose, but he sticks to it, that's the way he plays. There isn't much that I can say to Goob that would surprise him, and there isn't much that he can say that would surprise him. What I said, I'd probably say sooner or later though I don't expect it to affect him in any way. It's just something that had to be said.Paraphrasing mcDuff vs Goobla:TheGoobla wrote:TheGoobla wrote:Be polite.[Large angry rant]mcDuffies wrote:Goobla, you are a hypocrite. It gets on my nerves.

Maybe next time post just the short version, because the longer one was confusing(in a way) and open for (mis-)interpretation.
You are the Non. You must go now, and never return."
"1.Scan in high res 2.tweak with curves, levels or something to clean up the scan (or use channel mixer to remove blue pencil lines) 3.Add colour using a layer set to multiply. 4.Add wordbubbles and text as vector shapes. 5. Merge all layers. 6.resize to the web size. 7. Export/Save for Web" that's all I know about webcomicking.

Doom, really, don't take it personally. Trust me on this. I can't speak for everyone, but at first glance, I'm pretty sure that to new people, the forumites might seem kinda harsh, especially if you do "n00bish" things. But really, a lot of them are really cool.
I'll give you the advice that some people gave me in the beginning.
---Lay low for a while, and learn about the forums and its members
---Don't start any unnecessary thread, esp. ones that you know my cause some conflict or flaming.
Many forumites here are really close, so it'll be best not to get on any of their bad sides. They will defend each other, as I'm sure you already noticed.
Just try and remember that people around here don't talk negatively about others unless that person gave them a reason.
