About crybabys in general.

Post by DOOM2099 »

Sometimes people do something called "search."

Sometimes when people "search," threads come up.

So, if you search for the word 'webcomic,' generally speaking, a whole bunch of threads relating to webcomics come up.

Sometimes, a thread will come up that's really old and sometimes, every once in a while, someone doesn't notice how old the thread is, and will post in that thread... SOMETIMES.

Or maybe just ONCE.

And sometimes a whole bunch of people will start crying for no apparent reason and call you names, going out of their way to post in the thread that you so maliciously resurrected.

Hello?

If it's such a crime to post in that old thread, then why are you posting in that same thread? A PM would have done the job just fine.

Geniuses.

1) The crime is ressurecting the thread, not posting in it afterwards.

2) Each post has a date listed for it. If you are using the search function as opposed to going page by page, the onus is on you to notice the last time someone posted to the thread.

3) You are being called names because you have, and continue, to behave poorly. Does that make it right for people to call you names? Probably not. But it was your behaviour that generated the insults, not vice versa.

I think its basically correct to say, that to cruelly attack someone for resurrecting a thread in a way considered rude - by accident, is more or less wrong or impolite.

Though acting badly in response is not a proper way to rectify the situation.

In the ideal world of manners, the situation would unfold as follows:

1. Individual mistakenly resurrects thread.

2. Forumites express their displeasure at the act of resurrecting a thread, explaining that is considered inappropriate. Such actions taken with disregard to the desires of the broad forum populace shall be treated as wrong.

3. Resurrector apologizes, informing that he acted without malice or intentional disregard to normal forum manners, and that he will refrain from resurrection in the future.

But we do not live in such a world apparently. But hopefully all of us can learn from our mistakes and strive toward it, that we may live together more harmoniously.

I imagine it would be really ironic if someone one day ressurected this thread and people got pissed at them for doing so.

Dude, edit your post, remove what you said or you are going to get it from people far less rational than kolter and Goobla are being. Just look at what you wrote and think about it one last time.

Not a threat, a warning.

The correct answers are the ones Ryan gave you.

Another hint: Posting threads like this won't help your case unless you really wanted to insult established forum members when you're the one who's in the wrong in the first place. I strongly suggest you chill out.

Edit: And if you didn't see it in the thread which I locked, you've been warned by me once before and you're quite close to getting a second warning.

It's all about forum ethics. Unless you are a regular forum-er...By that I mean someone who chats on any forum frequently, you must observe the forum ethics before posting.

Ressurecting old threads is bad forum ethics.

Them threads be dated. And the comic you commented on was also dated, for 5 years ago.
And this isn't the first time you've resurrected a thread.

Actually Doom, I'm on your side in this one. At least in this one...maybe not anywhere else, but for this I'm in your corner.

I read the post myself and didn't realise it was a resurrected thread (honestly, who looks at the dates? Not I) until people started slagging off at you. I agree...a simple PM or a polite thread saying, 'oi, drong, check the date, eh?' would have been far more appropriate.

If you've been warned for this (and possibly further actions following), then sorry, sometimes people do get a little trigger happy with their powers here.

That said also, stick with us. This is just about the only real negative I have about this whole community, and trust me, you can work around it and enjoy your time here like I do.

Cheers.

so who is the title of the thread referring to, again? I'm having trouble figuring out if its self-referential or not.

I agree with Mr Dutch. While Doom appears to be overreacting a bit, I think the people who get all explodey over thread resurrection are too.

Thread necromacy is one of those universal rules of forum etiquette, along with spamming and flaming, so, yeah.

It was locked pretty quickly with a 'hey, don't do that again', to be fair, it's not like it sprialled into a 50 page long thread of bashing and mods screaming OH GOD I'M GOING TO KILL YOU ALL THROUGH INTERNETS.

It wasn't an abuse of mod power, it was a use of mod power.
