bumps in readership?

all of my jumps in readership have been easily explained by certain linkages.

Ehh... Give the site administrator the benefit of the doubt and assume it's a fluke... :P

I got a huge jump whenever I submitted something to OnlineComics.net (i.e. three times), since they were all hosted on the same site. I used to get a lot of hits from The Webcomic List, but now there're too many comics on there. Oh, and I got a massive influx of visitors from The Noob when I was a 'Spacer of the Week, but it died down as soon as the link was taken off the main page.

Also, the not-updating thing is killing me.

I once linked to a copy of the Rainbow Plucking Orgy video, which was making the rounds at the time. My hits jumped up by nearly two-hundred people overnight, all searching for the video.

Another time, I sent some fanart to Bigger Than Cheeses. I didn't expect the artist to actually post a link to my site on the main page of his, but he did and I ended up getting nearly 400 new visitors a day for about a week.

Over the last 15 months or so, my hits have slowly been spiralling downward, but thanks to bird flu (it could be, you don't know) we've gotten back up to where we were 6 months ago in the last couple weeks. It's crazy.

My hits have been completely predictable since week two.

I don't actually advertise my comic though, or do Fanart, or use cameos (except that one of my character's wears comic and webcomic related t-shirts occasionally), so I suppose that 80% of my hits come by word of mouth.

On Wednesday and Thursday of this week I broke 100 unique hits in a day for the first time. My average up 'til now has been 70ish on days I update (weekdays) and 40 on days I don't (Saturdays and Sundays).

Mine dropped since the name switchover. Then again, logs have been really iffy since then.

Yeah, the logs are messed up sometimes. Some days register as zeros when I know for sure that I have visited on that day from a remote computer. The loss of the Newshack has also impacted the number of people who visit my site.

After tracking my stats and poring over my stats for a while I've noticed that I get bumps in page views when I write comics starring certain characters...

...apparently people like my sheep and monkey characters and don't particularly care for my octopuss characters. Poor Angsty.
